Mac vs PC

Not to me, i have both. They both do their thing and I don't diss PC, they are great value for money but i just prefer Macs these days for their advantages and Mac "quirks".

Doesn't bother me either. I really don't see where all the hate comes from :( each to their own.

I use a pc - it does everything I need it to and looks exactly like I want it too. My mate uses a mac - it does everything he needs it too and it looks exactly like he wants it too.

Problem?

To 95% of the population it isn't, to the remaining 5% who are geeks it is. :D

I think that sums it up, geeks or users of greater skill don't view not opening junk virus ridden emails or installing a virus scanner a problem.

Once you get past the basic level of stupid user then the benefits of the OS X platform are greatly diminished.

There is zero maintenance required on any PC asides from backups, unless you are stupid.

Everything works. I work as developer and do not spend any time diagnosing computer faults or re-installing windows each week.

Windows is installed once, after Dell sends me a new machine.

Hardware from my own personal experience, is Dell business offers more reliable hardware then Apple.

I appreciate Apples design, but some of them are not practical like shiny surfaces that scratch to reduce second hand values or easily dent-able metal cases.

Just because Apple is a huge company now still does not make it the best for everyone, on the same logic Tesco is larger then Waitrose but which has the better quality?

What if people are not bothered about costs? All they care about is whether they can afford it, not whether it is best bang for buck.

That seems a faintly pointless rebuttal to the charge that Apple products are overly expensive. "I can afford it so who cares?" is the kind of response that shareholders of companies just live for :)

The question isn't can you afford it - I imagine almost all of us on this forum can, we're still talking about small sums of money - but should you have to pay what seems like an inflated cost.

I'm not picking sides as I genuinely could not care less about who thinks what is better than what. I just don't get that "who cares?" sentiment.

Oh, and to answer another point, you can put a price on aesthetics. Apple do and you pay it gladly, it would seem.

Why do people think apples unique.

Again logitech are highly priced, but have good CS and buildqaulity, aesthetics.

So do most of the expensive cases and people will gladly spend the money on that.

There's even hundreds of build threads where people will spend loads more for Colorado matched components which are hidden in a case, just look at build logs. Yet somehow that's all ok,but because someone buys apple, they're gullible fools.
Bench of hypocrites.

Wins the thread.

As a Logitech device is unique, designed and constructed by them and behaves differently then other companies.

A Mac is just a PC with the bulk of components exactly the same as any other manufacturer, Western Digital Hard Drives, LG Screens, Intel CPUS etc etc.

Its the same, not unique like a mouse.

I give you an iPhone & iPad etc are different but the Mac is not that much.

Aesthetics... When you have nothing better to worry about in life you pick the thing you have been conditioned into thinking looks nice.

They are better because

1 - I have not formatted it once in 2.5 years since I had it.
Oh snap, I run a PC and haven't had to
2 - I have not had a need to buy Anti-Virus. Yes Mac Virus exists but you got to be an idiot to get infected.
I run AVG and haven't had to buy any virus protection either
3 - It is silent. Totally. and no, I don't have it water-cooled either.
My PC is silent as well!
4 - Customer Service (point proven previously)
My customer service is awesome, if it goes wrong, I fix it the same day, not lug it to an apple shop (when it is open) and then swap it over
5 - Nice OS (subjective, never had trouble with Windows myself)

oh, I forgot, they DO look better.

There, that's 5 reasons, before i even mention about the pretty part lol

Again though, why do you care?

Who claimed that an Apple computer was unique, and why does buying one make anyone a hypocrite?

If people are happy to pay a premium for their Apple product, why don't you just leave them to it?

I'm struggling to see why PC users get their knickers in such a twist over people buying Macs, is it some sort of inferiority complex?

This.

I use windows for work day in, day out and it's superb. Absolutely superb! For productivity I cannot fault it.

I use a mac at home, and love it.

In fact, about to trade my current MBP up for a new MBA13 - my third mac :)

PC Owner : "I can't believe you prefer a Mac! The PC does this and this and this much better than a Mac!"

Mac owner : "I can't believe you prefer a PC! The Mac does this and this and this much better than a PC!"

Guy with PC and Mac : "I can watch pron on two different screens  "

Like many others I really don't see the problem people have here. Some people like Macs/Apple products and some don't, it seems to me if you can get as wound up about it as some people on these forums seem to, then you really need to sit in a dark corner have have a word with yourself.

Personally I have a high spec Windows gaming PC and a Macbook Pro. I use both of them all the time, the PC does my gaming and the mac does everything else. I used windows alone for years up until early this year when I got the MBP and I could always do whatever I wanted, but for me the Mac is just a bit better/easier for everything practical in my opinion.

Now there are the geeks out there who want to spend hours fiddling with settings and tweaking this, that and the other. And for them OSX/iOS really isn't the right choice, but for those of us who have better things to do and just want stuff to 'work' the Apple way suits very well.

But here's the thing, no matter what gadgets and tech I use, I wouldn't dream of telling someone they are 'wrong' or 'stupid' etc for using something else. I, like most people in this world, have far more important things to worry about.
