Mac vs PC

I had to replace keys on a MBP, I managed to get replacement keys for £20. Which is astonoshing after talking with numerous vendors who said they needed the laptop in-house and a £100 deposit etc. Doesn't help the ineptitude of these "geniuses" was thinly veiled but they had no alternative solutions.

Good thing actually replacing keys is a simple task and I hadn't had to do it before on a MBP but being told the whole thing had to be replaced I was stunned.

They have severe thermal issues too if they're not properly maintained. And because of their aluminium coffin it's a major PITA doing it.

I love their screen technology but the same panels can be had for a similar price I believe, not too sure there.

There are a multitude of other pros and cons. I used them in an office environment, they're terrible and slow but that was mainly due to ignorance of maintenance by the small team that I joined...

Random thought bubbles over!

So what you're saying is more expensive = overpriced?

So we should all buy Advent laptops, Hannspree TVs and drive Kias? I mean, they're about the cheapest and they do the same things, right?

You believe incorrectly.

No I'd agree with the Vaios being over priced - they're not better in any way and tend to have stacks of Sony crap installed on them. IT admins worst nightmare... hate the things.

No, I do not.

When I say overpriced, I mean there are similar or greater performing hardware for a smaller price. Vaios, macs, etc. They're just inside shiny shells. And your succeeding analogy doesn't apply. Don't bring cars into a computer debate. Or TVs, as the technology is different and very different variables to consider.

The answer was given, probably many times.
"PC" is not definitively better nor mac is.

The thought that people buy macs are idiots or simply do not know any better is born out of simple ignorance.

Macs are priced well for what they are. They are "overpriced" the same gtx480 was overpriced when it was the top dog of single cards. iMac - best all in one on the market, laptops are luxurious and very well built alternative would be envy and evny being still worse costs around the same. Mac mini you obviously pay for smallnest. Mac Pro is a bloody workstation and don't give me that cheap ar** dell workstations for £600, compare HP one which is again around the same price BUT less well built and misses all those luxuries mac offers.

People who use/used both and on this website (thus obviously have a good idea about PC's afterall we're all built one and overclocked it) told you that it's preference, both a good in their in respect.

They're aimed at different audiences, I used to like overclocking now I do not care / can not be bothered. I got money to spare so I rather buy i7 2600k and leave it there rather than overclock 2500 one.

Enough with jealous/elitist ignorance already >_>

Ain't nobody in their right mind would recommend a mac for a gamer. That is not their aim, I swear this thread makes this point every page yet we still get ignorant buffoons raising the same ill-informed accusations.

For god's sake in that case why does anybody have a laptop, you pay huge premium for worse specs? Right right mobility premium costs a lot, well the same god damn thing is with macs, all in one is premium, mac mini is tiny - premium.

As far as I'm aware they still come under the guise of a personal computer, no?

Ok, if you want to play it that way, find me a iMac/Mac Pro equivalent that is of equal build quality.

I could but you will just say that its not as good, no?

Because you and others keep saying baseless rubbish, refuse to back up their arguments (like you just have) and are generally annoying.

Oh, and you're the fanboy if anyone is. I don't own a Mac, I own a self built HTPC, gaming PC, HP Tablet and laptop (up until last week).

So again, why aren't build quality or form factor things to consider when buying a PC?

Maybe because what you built was complete rubbish?:D

I remember reading a article about a Apple store getting robed & losing $5000 in products, it was 5 macs that were stolen, you could build a few sweet PCs for $5000.

Think of it like this,

Which is which?

Car #1 : Can drive straight turn corners and go uphill when required
Car #2 : Can drive straight turn corners but cannot go uphills

Makes sense in my head :p

i always like to use the comparison of cars.

Mac,

bently, jag, porche, bugati, merc BMW audi....

you know, traction control, stiff but not too stiff suspension could drive them for 1000miles and not to do a full engine rebuild. a good amount of power.

i would use one of these as a daily driver and can be used for fun.

PC's

think track day car, very fast cheaper than lux' cars for far more speed round a track. takes skill and knowledge to maintain. they can be tuned (overclocked) however reliability and lifespan MAY decrease.

the more i think about it, the more this comparison works.

Caterham rs500 VS Audi R8 something like that.

I know which one i would own if i could only have 1
