been looking at macbook for a while now (£750 version) they do look nice but I can get a similar spec Windows notebook for £500 is it really worth spending extra on the mac?

Yes. I seriously doubt the winbook for 500 is similar spec. Post up the models and we'll tell you. Don't forget the Mac comes with tons of kit, that the winPC probably doesn't.

its a fujistu-siemens so build quality will be ok?
same spec cpu/ram/Video = similar battery life.
no camera

I do want a macbook as they look the biz, just wanted to make sure they worth the cash

what should i wait then? was thinking of buying in next couple of weeks
I wish I could answer that, I'm in the same boat myself. I want to buy now but rumour has it that apple will be announcing their new core2duo range in the next couple of weeks.

If you don't need it now - then wait along. If you plan to have it ASAP - just order it, don't matter if C2D comes out tomorrow or the day after - new technology is always coming out the day after - if it's a BIG jump from say PPC to Intel, it's worth the wait, jump between C(1)D to C2D, nothing *that* big unless running 64bit is *that* important for you.

That's what I think anyway - thus I ordered last friday and waiting for delivery... *thats the hardest part, waiting*

They won't upgrade the CPU's on the MacBook for a while yet, it only came out a few months ago!

Are you a student? If so you can get 15% discount and £100 off iPod's :)

Check the Mac sticky thread on this forum for further info on how to get it :) It's worth doing as it'll save you a large amount!

i can only see 6% discount am I missing something

You need to be in Higher Education to get 15%. The Apple Store can be accessed from your university/college LAN or the NUS website. You can also phone them up.

Suffolk University College should count then

Aye.
Just ask your sister to call and say she's from this and this uni, wants to buy from apple a (list items). They do it quite swiftly - was very impressed.

Edit: so far, they've yet done an "official" check if I'm really a student yet.

I didn't know it was 15%, I did a price check on line with the 6% and was shocked when the customer service said a price nearly £100 cheaper!! Student + Apple = happy customer.
