It took six people to restrain her
I know, when it would have only taken one with a batton or spray.
Someone with that much adrenaline running through them would be VERY hard to restrain.
Not with a batton or spray they wouldn't.
Have you ever tried detaining someone who is mentally deranged and doesn't want to be detained ?
Do you think you could do it single handed ? Best of luck mate.
With a batton or spray I could, yes. You're a copper? Of course you're going to defend your own profession. But really, it's a sad state of affairs when the police don't even restrain her properly in the first place. Run in front of moving traffic? Handcuffs on, sit in the back of my car please. It's not rocket science. They seemed to choose - nothing - then for the other sister, one hand loosely on her jacket.
It's a tough call.
Traffic cops carry it the same as 24/7 response. I have the luxury of hindsight but I would be reluctant to use incapacitant spray if she is on a motorway where the traffic is still flowing for obvious reasons. She will go down and that clearly poses a massive risk to the banshee and other road users.
On the other side of the motorway where traffic was stopped I wouldn't give it a second thought in using spray.
It's really not a tough call.
1. Using spray where the traffic is still flowing would be no problem as you're spraying it in her face not directly at vehicles. By the time it got into a car's ventilation system it would be so diluted by the atmosphere that it wouldn't be a factor at all. Besides, they had plenty of time to spray her at a time when the traffic was stationary.
2. 'She will go down and that clearly poses a massive risk to the banshee and other road users' - erm, she has posed a massive risk already and continued to do so when allowed to continue her suicidal rampage??
3. Three times she tried to get herself run over. THREE TIMES. When would it cease to be a tough call, when she was dead and has killed a road user by jumping through their windscreen?
I have respect for the police and the job they do but I don't care how raw the incident was in their minds, 'trained professionals' should be able to handle the scenario much better. There's plenty of time for bed wetting at a later date.
