Madness in the fast lane

I think this is an example of a situation that is so utterly bizarre, that laws could never be created to stop this thing happening again.

I remember when this story featured on Motorway Cops. I'd missed the advertising for this program - thanks for sharing!

Should've ran her over good and proper :p

Utter insanity, such an unbelievable and bizarre mental state when those twins come together. I wonder if her release will be publicised?

- The number of police idiots required to secure a single female...the police were too weak, too incompetent to bring her down and deal with her properly. The woman that got absolutely floored should have taken action with a batton or something. Pathetic.

Have you ever tried detaining someone who is mentally deranged and doesn't want to be detained ?

Do you think you could do it single handed ? Best of luck mate.

It was pretty horrific that truck incident. Really did splat her legs didn't it!

I've tried, as Smallhausen says, restraining someone who didn't want to be and it's very, very difficult, for many reasons, at the best of times - even if you do have training! Don't forget that they were probably concerned about not making any existing injuries worse! They couldn't just knock her out :p

State Troopers would have probably just tazed the pair of them and been done with it :p

Would there have been grounds for CS gassing her or do the traffic cops not carry it? Or would it have been seen as dangerous given she was in the middle of a motorway?

I hate the way the Police's hands are tied sometimes. The bitch needed to be taken down.

It's a tough call.

Traffic cops carry it the same as 24/7 response. I have the luxury of hindsight but I would be reluctant to use incapacitant spray if she is on a motorway where the traffic is still flowing for obvious reasons. She will go down and that clearly poses a massive risk to the banshee and other road users.

On the other side of the motorway where traffic was stopped I wouldn't give it a second thought in using spray.

It took six people to restrain her

I know, when it would have only taken one with a batton or spray.

Someone with that much adrenaline running through them would be VERY hard to restrain.

Not with a batton or spray they wouldn't.

With a batton or spray I could, yes. You're a copper? Of course you're going to defend your own profession. But really, it's a sad state of affairs when the police don't even restrain her properly in the first place. Run in front of moving traffic? Handcuffs on, sit in the back of my car please. It's not rocket science. They seemed to choose - nothing - then for the other sister, one hand loosely on her jacket.

It's a tough call.

It's really not a tough call.

1. Using spray where the traffic is still flowing would be no problem as you're spraying it in her face not directly at vehicles. By the time it got into a car's ventilation system it would be so diluted by the atmosphere that it wouldn't be a factor at all. Besides, they had plenty of time to spray her at a time when the traffic was stationary.

2. 'She will go down and that clearly poses a massive risk to the banshee and other road users' - erm, she has posed a massive risk already and continued to do so when allowed to continue her suicidal rampage??

3. Three times she tried to get herself run over. THREE TIMES. When would it cease to be a tough call, when she was dead and has killed a road user by jumping through their windscreen?

I have respect for the police and the job they do but I don't care how raw the incident was in their minds, 'trained professionals' should be able to handle the scenario much better. There's plenty of time for bed wetting at a later date.

Strange girls indeed. But let's not forget how paranoia kicked this off in the first place.

The coach driver got his knickers in a twist just because they were holding their bags close to their chests.

So what.

I think there is more to this than we are being told

/dons tin foil hat

I feel for the two drivers involved, but that whole thing was only, 'Madness'. Mind, her in the red coat would have got one hell of a punch after that!

I think you missed the point on this one.

I certainly meant and I think Von did too, that if he gassed the crazy witch and her eyes are streaming and she can't see, and then wanders in front of a HGV that does the job properly - the copper is in a bit of bother.

I see, if that's what von meant. Once the bint is gassed though, you do not simply release her to waltz in front of an artic. You pin her down and lick her face...I mean read her her rights.

- Two women try to kill themselves, yet are not properly secured by police at the scene but simply left standing around. I mean, who could possibly think that they'd try again?

The officers had only just arrived, and were being told what had happened when they ran out intro traffic again. They can't act on information they don't even have yet.

"Police idiots"? The officers were dealing with people who had just been hit by vehicles (twice), the last thing they're expecting is for them to get up yet again and start being combative. The officers also clearly explained (at least the Traffic Cops episode) that they were very reluctant to use PPE or physically restrain them because they'd likely just suffered serious injuries. The last thing they'd want to do is risk doing more damage. How on earth are they supposed to be "professionally trained" to deal with such a bizarre incident?

bat**** crazy women in unstable behaviour non shocker.

that said probably good gf material for a a few on here :)

The officers watching the road traffic cameras described to the police what had happened before anyone even arrived at the scene .

That still doesn't mean that you pull up and immediately detain everyone, especially people who had just been involved in a vehicle collision. They were already in the care of the HATOs anyway, and they weren't being combative at that point in time.

There's no need to be condescending. You have unrealistically high expectations if you expect people to be able to simply use initiative to cope with such a bizarre incident. I'm sure the officers involved wish they had been better prepared, but the whole point is that they clearly couldn't have been.
