Mafia 2 Details

I can't see it being 2008. Microsoft said it would be, Remedy said it would be 2009. I'd be inclined to believe the developer, though Microsoft are a powerful company. Saying that, Microsoft do give a lot of companies with big games leeway, the only time I remember them forcing games out were a couple on launch, PGR3 (which hadn't been tested til a week prior to release) and Perfect Dark Zero.

I don't believe this. There is literally no way you could release a game in a playable state with only a week of QA.

The team at Bizarre are still able to play it throughout its development. But the last bit of coding or whatever was only installed a week before it hit retail. It was that close.

Bizarre were playing PGR4 with bikes and cars on tracks over a year ago for example, but the game wasn't out until October 2007. It just never had a strict test on it after it was finished (PGR3, not PGR4).

More info

* There will be about 80 different car models in Mafia 2
* The game has been in development for almost 5 years, or “almost as long as it took Bunige to release three Halo-games”.
* The animations iin the game are incredible. There are 122 different animationsspots in every humans face.
* The plan is not to be in the shadow of GTA 4. They’re going to revolutionize the genre. “Our game is serious”.
* “This is a playable movie. A playable, interactive gangterflick, a linear game, extremely storyheavy and with a more serious and mature tone than any other game in the genre. Including the first Mafia.
* 2K Czech thinks that all more games are focusing on the scale of the gamingworld. The bigger the better. 2K Czech however, is going the opposite way, by making Mafia 2 70% of the first game’s area.
* The Graphic Engine that is running Mafia 2 has taken nearly 5 years to develop. The details in the game are on the same level as Crysis.
* The Story is centered around Vitor Scarletta. Home from the war, where he got hurt badly, and with not that much money, he and his friend Jerry Barbaro goes on a crime spree. Before Vitor knows what happened, he is doing work for one of the city’s Mob-families.
* Empire City is modeled after New York and San Fransisco.
* It is mentioned far to many times to say, that Mafia 2 is looking absolutely stunning

Looking forward to this one for sure, first one was absolutely brilliant and kept me going all the way through, shame about the replay value though.

I just won't believe this one will be as good as the last until I play it for myself.

Sad that the console versions are going to be launched before the PC version considering it was much more popular on the PC than it was when released on consoles.

Seriously can't wait for this :) Everytime I see something to do with Mafia 2 - makes me wanna go back and play the original :D

See, this is like. What always bothered me about the GTA series is it never quite knew where it wanted to go, silly over the top mentalness or a deep storyline with involving characters. Espeially as of late it seems to have tried and failed at both at once.

Now we have saints row 2, a game that has taken the silly elements of GTA and ran with it, creating a fantastic game in the process. I was waiting for a game to come along and take the idea of a deep storyline within a GTA style game and perfect it. This looks like it could be that game.

Does anyone get the sickly feeling that this is going to be a GTA clone?

Mafia 1 was fantastic and nothing like GTA, but i just get the horrible feeling that they will make it like GTA just because they know it will sell so well..
