Magic Mouse

I had a play with one in the apple store and it seemed plenty fast enough. Is it likely that they had any third party software installed to speed it up a bit?

I very much doubt it. I have read that 10.6.2 seems to improve the speed a bit but I also doubt they're running that instore.

Magic mouse was getting starting to get worn on the bottom, so ordered me a new mouse mat...

Just in the apple store in Cardiff and had a go with te magic mouse, first impression was good, accurate, responsive, well built. Nice click to it, the scroll is good but then tried the 2 finger swipe in iphoto...I think I gave myself RSI in the process. The mouse will not stay still for the swipe, it's hard to grip am swipe withe 2 fingers, and moves if I don't grip it. My wrist actually isn't right at the mo lol

so that's out, not paying £55 for that.

The 27" iMac on the other hand is amazing, all in 1 back aluminium casing....drool

I know what you mean. I went to the Apple concession at PC World of all places. They had the 21.5" iMac, the 24" Cinema Display and the 27" iMac in all its glory. A really nice piece of kit.

I also quite liked the look of the 21.5" iMac. A nice high res and seemed just the right size for a small room/desk. :)

I was actually going there to try out a Magic mouse but they didn't have any on show or in boxes for sale. :o

I honestly struggle to see why people find the two finger swiping a problem. Maybe it's my imp-like hands, but it's perfectly fine for me.

Got mine up and running yesterday.

Very happy with it. First Apple mouse I've used for more than 2 minutes.

I'm starting to find that weighted scrolling is somewhat annoying in Final Cut Studio but is great in Safari and Finder. Is there a way of quickly switching it off for when I am in FCS?

Just recently bought the magic mouse and must say it's quite a delight to use, but I'm wondering what the best kind of surface is for it as it seems to drag a little using it on my Razer eXactMat, doesn't seem much better on my wood desktop either... any suggestions?

If anyone wants to customise their magic mouse, go get magicprefs. Allows you to move the areas for all the clicks, set swipes for up to 4 fingers, gestures, the lot. Awesome piece of software.

Just a quickie though. Have many people found that the black rungs get really gummed up seemingly from nowhere. Just using it on my desk picks up loads of crap.

Thinking about one of these, since I brought my iMac I have had a cabled mouse and after years of wifi it feels wrong.... Had a go on a mates one the other week and it was low but sick and felt great to use....

Yeah my one at work needs cleaning every day or more than that. I'm sure I wash my hands a lot but it's like I go play in mud every day the amount of crap the mouse picks up!

I've finally given up on the magic mouse, going to get rid and go back to my G5.

Few things that were very annoying. It jitters and skips a lot on my mouse mat or table when there's dust on it.
It sounds like it is grating against sand paper on my desk or mouse mat, the black rails aren't nearly as smooth as the pads on my G5.
I love momentum scrolling in safari etc. but have you tried using google maps? Oh my word it gets me so stressed, an accidental slip of the finger when moving the mouse is translated into either zooming in or out all the way. Made planning routes on these maps a real pain.

But I do like the gestures and it's ok overall, but I think I'll just give it to my dad.

I've never liked the magic mouse. It's too thin and doesn't fit in the hand very well and i find the 2 finger swipe thing impossibly hard and awkward feeling.

I'm still using my BT mighty mouse and couldn't be happier!

I can't abide the magic mouse as my primary use mouse but it's the nicest I've had for my macbook and enjoy using it sparingly whenever I take it out with the laptop.
