Major help needed please....!!!!

Hi all

Just bought the following:

MSI RD480 Neo2 Motherboard
Connect3D X1800XT 256MB
2GB Geil Value Ram

when i have come to put it together and switch it on i get NO signal to the monitor....

i have checked the GPU connections etc....and still nothing....

all the risers are also in the right place so dont think im shorting it....

all fans and cd rom are going fine but no signal....

i am using a IDE hard drive which i know i will have to format but cant even get the BIOS up....

any help would do please....cant wait to play with my new GPU....

im on msn messenger if anyone would go through it on there with me....

Did you push the mobo power connector in properly? That seems to be the common cause.

yeah its only the 20pin though....although motherboard has the 24pin....it clicks in etc....

i have an Antec Truepower 480w....

thought that would be more than adequate....

Yeah that is adequate, but you need a 20pin to 24pin adaptor. I'm pretty sure that's the problem.

If you didn't need to use an adaptor to change a 20 pin plug into a 24 pin plug, they would not sell adaptors for that purpose.

i understand that and thats what i thought but in the motherboard maunual it says you can use just the 20pin with the PSU???? ....

i havent a clue what to do....all the fans are working....etc but no beep....

A 20 - 24 pin adaptor doesn't actually add any cables, it just uses a 24pin connector with 4 pins left blank.

If its a power problem , getting an adaptor probably won't help, you will need a new psu with the extra 4 cables.

I didn't think 20 pin connectors fitted into 24pin sockets, thats why the adaptors exist. Either way an adaptor won't give you the 4 extra cables.

What does the manual say about the use of a 20pin connector?
Some boards allow it, some don't (Dfi).

it says....

"you may use the 20pin ATX power supply as you like. if youd like to use the 20pin ATX power supply please plug your supply in as shown (pic)....there is also a foolproof design on the pins to avoid wrong installation"

so i dont think its that....

im sure all other cables are attached properly to the motherboard....

all other connections (hard drive, cd rom, fans etc) are ok....

like i said all fans whirling....

dont see the motherboard lighting up but dont know if this one should....

Does the board have an led which should light up?
I expect not, as its a fairly recent asus thing.

Does the graphics card have an led and is it on?
Does the graphics card have a power connector on it that needs plugging in?

Is there any bios beepcode or msi led code thingy?
Is the onboard speaker plugged in correctly?

Did it work previously with a different graphics card?

cant see an led light on the motherboard....

graphics card is not lit up but it has a power connector attached and the fan is working....

dont know what you mean by the bios beepcode or led code thingy....

onboard speaker....what you mean mate....

never tried it with another graphics card as its a brand new build....

were you using integrated graphics before ?
When i installed mine i had to put it in and then start the comp with the monitor connected to the integrated graphics, install new graphics drivers, uninstall integrated graphics drivers and put the monitor onto the new card and it worked.
Make sure you have deleted any old graphics drivers and also make sure you have selected the right graphics card in display settings .

A bit of a messy paragraph but hope it helps.

P.S. Does the new graphics card power up ? e.g. does the gpu fan come on ?

Have you read the mobo manual? I'm very much afraid that you can't have if you are asking these questions
Please go back and STUDY the manual before you do some real damage to your components

thanks for your help....

i understand what you say but the manual may as well be in spanish as the explanations in there are about as much use a chocolate fireguard....

the cpu is in aswell as the heatsink and fan which is spinning round....

i am going to take everything out and go through it again....

if someboday has a bit of time on msn messenger to go through it with me then i would be more than greatful....
