Make PCs Greener

I can't see any mention of what the average power consumption of the "typical pc" is, would be interested to see how mine compares to give me a better idea of how much mine uses.

/Awaits a time when i can have a PC that has enough power to polute the planet like that :(

You could probably work it ut easily enough. An "average" PC probably uses 100 - 150W and a hi spec PC with 100% cpu utilisation would probably use about 300W (if that).

Then all you need to do is see how much greenhouse gas is produced per watt. :)

LOL @ me

I just asked myself... how exactly does a computer produce co2?

I thought i should tell you guys, lol.

Do anyone actually care? I leave tv, ps3, ps2, dvd, music studio all in stand by. I honestly dont see myself breaking the habit.

i care, but i dont believe its upto each individual person to make the change, i reckon its the governments or leaders etc of the various countries to come up with some greener replacement for coal plants and such. whats the point if we cut down on having things on if we're still producing the co2 from those plants

yupp my comp is on all the time my telly is on standby all the time too so :S

for anyone to notice a lot of people would have to make their pc's green but how i dunno ?

so many pc's these days they ain't got no chance.

These wind farms and that are a pile of crap they take up too much space the government needs to think of some way better of generating electricity !

Agreed, personally I think we need to invest more in nuclear power.

/awaits the guy who bought a 520watt instead of a 600watt PSU because he wanted to be green :D
Wouldn't make a difference actually, he would still only be using 300w or so. ;)
A more powerful psu does not make any difference to the pcs power usage.

I dont see the link! The whole thing about the american foreign policy is that they are in it for themselves...so technically they care. :p

no, we need more prisons
prisons produce power ;)
or are you wanting to create human sized hamster wheel's so we can have the prisons inmates produce power for the public ;)
i love the idea of the latter but i doubt it'd work as it probably goes against human rights or something
