Makers thread

Nice, I did a 1 day blacksmithing course at a local museum a year or so ago, really enjoyed it and would love to do more, but just don't have the space (or time!) Those damascus knives are awesome, did you forge them by hand or with a power hammer?
The billets for these were made by someone else, I'm not set up yet to make large billets yet. I've made a few small bits, it's a lot of work and good fun.
I'm putting together a hydraulic press at the mo so I can make my own :)

I'd totally pay you for a custom kitchen knife!! Kinda like the one with the fox on for a finish! Would love it. Serious about this! :D
Get in touch :)

Always wanted to try pottery, but not got round to it yet.

I've done a 'taster day' at Grayshot Pottery twice now. Max of 4 people, with wheel and clay plus a teacher - we've had two (a teacher and a Ukrainian production potter who is far better at teaching!). You get to make whatever you want on the wheel, then after you select the pieces and glazes you want. They then Bisque fire, glaze and fire again.. a few weeks later the piece is ready to be collected.

Awesome fun!

Used to do a bit of wood turning years ago but this sort of thing requires space which after moving I did not have, and still don't. For those who do not know what this is.

Woodturning is the craft of using the wood lathe with hand-held tools to cut a shape that is symmetrical around the axis of rotation. Like the potter's wheel, the wood lathe is a simple mechanism which can generate a variety of forms. ... A skilled turner can produce a wide variety of objects with five or six simple tools.

Nice work @Perywinkle

I tinker with various machines and materials from pens to knives and axes to small swords and bowls and vases . I should do more but time is always a premium sadly

Those knives look amazing. I've got massive respect for anybody who is able to create stuff like that. My wife has been trying to start up a handmade silver jewellery business, she's got great talent but it's incredibly hard work. The only thing i'm good for is manning the stall at craft fairs and heading to hatton garden to pick up materials!

I've been a guitar maker, made bicycle-powered electrical guff, and obviously love PCs so plenty of handy skills and a messy house full of tools!

Sadly I hardly find time to do any projects. PC modding is the latest one that takes up my downtime, really enjoying that but it's the most expensive hobby too.

My partner makes jewellery, mostly on a laser cutter so that's the latest toy!

What laser cutter is it? Sounds interssting :)

Those knives are really nice - where did you start to learn how to work with metal like that? The most I ever did with metal at school was making a G clamp.

The antique radio being turned into a media PC is a pretty nice idea too.

lol, I guess he could probably take some requests for more specialist stuff too... :D

(joking aside the pens look really nice too :) )

Those knives are amazing. The Damascus one especially. I'm not sure i could justify that on a knife or i'd be in touch!

I've got into woodworking in the last few years. Here a few of my efforts. Not quite as precise or skilled as your stuff though!

These are lovely. Can't beat a bit of self-made furniture and fittings :)

I only had a month to get stuff together as it was a bit of a last minute thing.
Heading up this afternoon ready for the show tomorrow!
