Making Drinks at Work...

I never get drinks but on the flip side I don't accept them either.

I mostly drink water at work or grab the odd coffee from the work shop (excuse to stretch my legs every so often).

I make my own, I'd rather have one good cup of tea per day than round after round of **** ones. Everyone else is in a round and always complain about X making **** tea. I'm not a big tea or coffee drinker though so rarely have more than 1 per day when I'm at work.
Tbh, the constant drama I see in other teams about making drinks makes me glad my entire team doesn't bother.

Maybe he's busy actually working... unlike you lot!

Why can't everyone just get their own?! Rounds are so pointless

That's fine, others make their own at the old place. But didn't expect to be involved in the rounds when others made a drink.

This isn't that, this person just expects people to make her drinks and thinks it's beneath her to make them for others.

Don't get me started about coffee/tea at work! :)
I work in quite a large office. We have a coffee bar which was actually quite good. £0.95 for a black coffee, £1.30 for a latte etc so decent value. They just upgraded it to a Costa franchise and increased the prices by 80%. This on top of a pay freeze which we are 18 months into a 2 year agreement. Ironically the coffee is terrible now, really weak and loads of people are complaining. Buying a round would get very expensive. You could easily spend £4 a day, £20 week, £80 a month etc. Before you know it you are having to earn £1500 just to keep you in coffee. I am abstaining even though some mornings I am gagging for a cup.

A bit off topic but its been irking me for a few weeks!

For the first two years I was here, I was an enthusiastic round-maker. Then some people joined the team who simply don't pull their weight, so when I make a round now, I only take the cups of those who I feel contribute.

If my team manager said something like that to me, they'd never get a cuppa again.

I have done in the past, don't anymore because there is always that one awkward bugger.

Place I worked 10 at years ago, I was the new guy / general office lackey so I ended up making a lot of brews. As there were only 4 people in the part of the office I was working in I naively thought this would be a nice simple job.

Except for one nutter who demanded that her tea was made with one teaspoon of milk!! Before moaning that there was either too much or too little every bleeding time.

When I was a lad I was always told that 'you get what your given'.

On my first day I was expected to make tea and coffee. It was a huge outcry when I steadfastly refused. I didn't drink it, so I didn't make it

I stopped drinking tea/coffee at work because of this. Always said no thanks when I got asked, and just made it for myself, but apparently there is still something wrong with that. If I want a drink, I don't want to spend 5 minutes asking people what they want and how they take it (giggity) and precariously shuffling around with 6 hot beverages dripping everywhere.

Now I just drink Lucozade 24/7 AND I AM SO ****ING BUZZED RIGHT NOW!

It's implying that if you have something that can bark for you (make drinks) then why would you do it yourself. e.g. let others make me drinks.

I still don't think it makes sense because she was still making her own drink (barking), it's not like she had ordered a lackey to do it for her; she just wasn't getting a drink for everyone, but at the same time wasn't expecting anything in return as far as I can see.

Also, I thought dogs barking is generally undersirable.... I suppose some people buy them for security and having them bark is desirable to alert you if an intruder has broken in etc. but on the whole people don't buy dogs to listen to then bark.

We used to get people moaning about who made drinks, now we have a large foam dice!

Before a brew is made everyone has to confirm if they are in on the brew round. Everyone is already assigned a number that gets randomly picked every month. We then roll the dice and if it rolls your number you make drinks for the team.

Everyone is then happy :D

I drink too many cups of tea - like one per hour at least.... I just make my own and don't bother asking anyone else. I'll mention when I'm heading to the shops etc... in case anyone wants anything but as for making brews.... nope.

My boss sometimes uses the line "why have a dog and bark yourself" line when it comes to making tea (in fairness it is tongue-in-cheek and he does make them for us too) and my reply is always "I didn't realise you had a waiter on the books, where is he?"

I think she may have simply misunderstood what that saying is usually used to communicate.

I don't accept any drink offers to prevent having to make group drinks. I don't drink the water in the building where i work though, so don't make drinks any more. When i used to work at a place where i used to use the coffee machine, i just always insisted on making my own and refused to make anyone else drinks. Too much politics don't have time for it.

I never did at my last place. I always made my own and other people did rounds for the rest of the team. Mainly because I always used freshly ground coffee and an Aeropress.

If they didn't want to learn how to use it and were happy with their Mellow Turds, they didn't get any drinks from me. So I only made for myself.

We're only allowed to make drinks on scheduled 15-minute breaks (and lunch hour), so most people just make themselves one, which I can understand.

We have some one in our office who likes to mother every one so will make drinks at regular times through out the day, the problems start when she is on holiday though :)
