Making money on-line?

we need a thread for this :p

have made 'progress' on bitcoin, no coins yet but its taking off now with 100% CPU usage (looking into a GPU program now)

Getting 4292 K/hash i have used this online calculator to find out how many days i would take to start generating coins and its not good! (GPU solution needed)

out of interest have any i7 users on this forum had any luck with this? and do sandybridge CPU's make any difference?

EDIT: oh i forgot the link, for anyone interested: CALC this is the calculator i used

need the GPU option explaining :(
can't understand it! even with the 'easy' setup program GUIminer, i was able the 'link' it to the original bitcoin.exe and get a connection with the GUI client in solo mode but nothing seems to happen?

Are there really any ways you can make yourself money on-line?
Its something I always hear about, but most of the time nothing really works.

Making money online is pretty much the same as making money in the real world. I.T is just an enabling technology; good business makes money. Anything else is just pocket change.

I went to college with a total chump who went on to be an estate agent; then all of a sudden became an internet entrepreneur by helping people market their business. No idea what it is but it seems like one of those companies where you pay them a grand for membership and they upload total bull to their members only website, so people think theyre getting a great wealth of knowledge.
I want to post his link but cant bear the thought of giving his site traffic.
From what I can tell he is doing quite well out of ripping people off.

So with this bit coin thing, you generate coins and sell them off or what? :P

Long story short, it's a clever pyramid scheme.

Someone wrote a program that randomly generates coins up tp a maximum of 21,000,000. As time passes and more are found the rarity of the new ones increases exponentially. You "find" them by processing a basically completely useless algorithm, the more you process the higher chance of getting a coin.

The first million were probably generated by the author and he's steadily selling them off as more people buy into the scheme. The price goes up as the supply is always going down and more get suckered in (GCSE economics anyone?).

It's catching on in the computer geek world as it's all about building the fastest GPU rigs.

EDIT: ok i got the GUI miner running in solo now getting 32 Mhash/s (much faster then CPU) going to keep it running for a bit to see if anything happens :)

just earned my first 0.01 bitcoin! :p i have joined a 'mining pool' which gives me much better results then SOLO i get to choose between a steady payment method (time = bitcoins) or a variable which is a gamble that may give higher rewards but i went for the 'safe' steady pay option
so its not a 'scam' it just needs to be done in group (unless you have lots of 'mining rigs' setup)

now 0.01 may not sound like much but compared to how much 'power' i put in on ratio to what others put in its a fair amount (i think) :D

You're better off creating free mobile apps with ads.

not for me, i cant program stuff AT ALL, without the GUI and the easy download clients i would not have my 0.01 by now :p i would have given up already!

however building pc's and solving tech based problems i can do VERY easily so this is a good way for me to get money 'online' all i have to do now is hope that the value of a bitcoin increases over time :)

well.. im not buying them im earning them and havn't had to 'pay' for them yet, unless i ever decide to buy a better gpu to 'mine' with
the prices of bitcoins is now £4 to 1BTC
rates can be checked at: http://bitcoincharts.com/

he maybe right about not worth 'buying' bitcoins although the value of bitcoins is increasing daily, not sure sure when it will stop/slow down yet :)
so if your a stocks/shares type of guy then you may take interest in the buy/sell game :)

If you're talking about online websites where you can make money - try fixtheodds.com.

It's a free to use website which takes advantage of a loophole meaning that you can turn the free bets offered by bookmakers into proper cash. The Daily Torygraph, I mean Telegraph covered this before: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...tips/8185280/Is-this-a-bet-you-cant-lose.html

But if you're talking about going online yourself and making money - why not create a journalistic blog like Martin Lewis did and then add in loads of affiliate links? My recommendation is a 'how to spend it' blog!

This is called matched betting, its just a site that tells you what to place your bets on which imo is a disadvantage as it doesn't find particularly good odds. Learn to do it manually and you will make more money, and know how to recover from mistakes.
