Malaysian Grand Prix 2010, Sepang - Race 3/19

The intros aren't particularly good, but it's his commentary that I can't stand. Very repetitive and monotonous at times. He's supposed to be the colour commentator next to Brundle's expert analysis, but Brundle is more colourful with his commentary as well. I feel a bit sorry for Legard as it's clearly a difficult job, with his predecessor Allen coming in for a lot of criticism from the fans also. But for the love of god, get him out of there and put in a good commentator like Ben Edwards asap.

Ben Edwards is probably the best motorsport commentator out there. Informative, knowledgeable and has commentated on F1 before.

Legard does ramble on a bit and sometimes talks across Brundle, who is a better commentator.

I think, Ted Kravits and Martin Brundle would make a good team. Drop Leg

...maybe Schumacher will be able to show us some magic too :) .

It was wet during qualifying today and MS showed us very little magic. In fact, in the wet, he was outqualified by his team-mate by a considerable margin (1.1s).

I still believe that MS will finish the season with more points than Rosberg, but he just isnt the same force he once was.

In 2005/6, he was on a downward curve, succumbing to Renault/Alonso. I believe that this downward curve has continued during his absence from F1 and the result we are seeing in 2010 is that he is struggling to keep up with Rosberg. Consider also that Rosberg isnt quite in the league of Alonso or Hamilton, so if Rosberg is doing this much damage, imagine what Hamilton or Alonso could do.

I'm sorry MS, but by returning to F1, you are simply damaging the reputation you spent years building.

This is what I was worried about when he came back. He was fighting for the title even at the last in 2006, whereas he's returned with a whimper. It's not like he needs the money, but the car not being competitive enough to challenge for race wins isn't going to help his cause. Yes, being outqualified 3/3 by your team-mate isn't good, but he was a lot closer in Australia and today really was a lottery.

We need someone with the enthusiasm of Murray Walker :) to give it that "my god he's crazy but damn if he isn't making this processional race seem exciting" vibe :)

At this early stage, having an uncompetitive car isnt the problem. As long as he outperforms his team-mate, most of his fans will be content knowing that he still has the "skills" and is comfortably beating another man in the same machinery.

What we are seeing though is MS getting battered by a team-mate who is not held in the same category as Alonso or Hamilton. If Rosberg is beating MS so consistently, how would MS cope with Alonso or Hamilton?

I don't think the 1.1s slower is a good representation of what we should expect in the race as it was changeable conditions, I still think he is likely to be slower then Rosberg in the race but it's possible he can make up some places. I did watch qualifying, but I'm not sure why he was so much slower then qualifying, if it was just the changing conditions or he made some errors but over a race distance he shouldn't be too far off his team mate. I'm not expecting a podium really, but there could be an interesting battle with Barichello, and possibly Kubica and Hulkenberg.

I think we should give Schumacher a more time before calling the comeback a failure, he isn't in a race winning car at the moment, and although he is being beaten by his teammate, Rosberg might prove to be one of the best, as he hasn't really had the chance to shine at Williams so I find it difficult to place him agains the top guys at the moment. If Vettel was his team mate instead would everyone be so surprised that he is being beaten? Maybe Rosberg would be doing just as well as Vettel in an equally competetive car, who knows.

I know people see it as damaging to his reputation, but for me, the comeback won't be damaging, even if he doesn't get better, it won't take away the epic domination from when he was in his prime, and I comend the guy for having the balls to risk potential embarrasment by coming back and facing some of F1s new talent and Alonso.

Absolutely. He hasn't barged anyone off the track yet, done any nasty swerves across from the start or parked a perfectly healthy car somewhere awkward...

Thats just no good!

;)

Changeable conditions are where the top drivers really show their worth. The higher the callibre of the driver, the better he will be in changing conditions. Senna was legendary in this area.

Of course...its early days yet.

he isn't in a race winning car at the moment,

The quality of the car counts for nothing right now, as he can't beat his team-mate. Once he starts beating Rosberg consistently, then we can start blaming the machinery.

If he's still behind Rosberg after half a season then questions certainly need to be asked. I just think debating his skill after 2 races and a bit isn't on.

What's with all the 20 pence wagers?

Relating to the commentary team, I currently switch to the 5 Live feed simply because it's better by a country mile. Antony Davidson picks up on so many things, it's unreal... plus he's quite the comedian alongside Crofty ;)

David Croft on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra: said:
"How can Webber swim through these conditions? Is that the Australian in the cockpit or is it Ian Thorpe?

Made me chuckle anyway lol. (Probably because I've had a stupidly long weekend cause of 2 weddings!)

Grid walks are nowhere near as good as last year though :(

True, they all stay inside or whatever don't they :(

I can see a lot of annoyed people due to Sky not linking the move to BBC2 today. Even on series link it's not recording.

Webber will lead until it rains, Webber will then fall off of the track, Vettel will take over the lead, Vettel's car will break, red bull lose out on the podium again :p
