Yea if its right they must be in serious trouble, i hope they sort it out tho, be good to have another couple cars in the mix

The BBC and Gary Anderson are confusing me now. He earlier stated that the Merc was chewing it's rears but now I cannot find that line anywhere (do they update their articles after publishing?)

it is certainly starting to look very good for Lotus and Kimi

interestingly from what i have read Rosberg and Hmilton seem prety positive that they will be competitive come race day and havent really worked on their short run pace in these practice sessions.

Pirelli are doing exactly what the FIA asked them to do.

And the teams don't have the number of tyres they need. Just look at any wet practice sessions where nobody goes out, or the amount of half full Q3s we have had because people save their tyres. The tyre allocation does not fit with the current tyre specification. It needs to be increased, or at least rearranged, or the FIA need to tell Pirelli to make harder tyres.

The FIA asked Pirelli to make tyres that would not last a full race distance at peak performance. There is a difference between "making tyres that will not last a full race distance" and "making tyres that will not last ten laps". The FIA know this and are probably already asking for harder tyres because as I said before, Pirelli have gone too far.

As for the half-empty Q3 sessions, those have nothing to do with teams not having all the tyres they need. The teams that scrape into Q3 don't run because they know they will be on row 4 or 5 anyway, so they may as well keep a completely unused set of options in the bank and start on the tyres of their choice. But if a rule was put into place tomorrow whereby teams that chose not to run in Q3 would have their Q2 and Q1 times disqualified, everyone would be out there in Q3 and it would not stop them racing. We know this because the teams that do go out in Q3 have no problem racing. So it's not about teams not having as many tyres as they need, it's about not having as many tyres as they want - which is not the same at all.
 
not sure about the tire moaning. if they getting worn quickly, drive slower...

its not what we want to see in f1 but if this is the current situation with them then they will just have to drive slower to make them last longer.
 
I'd rather have a long red flag period than a 30 lap procession behind the safety car. If they don't want them to race then stop and wait until they do, don't rob us of half the laps while the drivers complain that its dry enough for inters.

That's really annoyed the hell out of me when they've done it in recent years. Personally I think if they need to follow a safety car for more than 2-3 laps for weather they should just red flag and restart the race when better.

Yep. If its too wet to race and still raining, it isn't going to magically get better next lap round.

Didn't we loose about 15 laps of Canada a couple of years back while the stewards pondered?

the cars driving round helps to get the water off the track, i think martin says they remove 80L of water a second. so 22 cars doing that is going to get a lot of water up.
 
Indeed, but that only happens once its stopped raining, or at least reduced. They went round for a good few laps at Canada where it was lashing it down so no amount of F1 cars driving would clear that water.

And then the restart was a shambles the other way, in that they stayed behind the SC so long that not only did they clear the water, there was practically a dry line that meant everyone dived in for Inters the moment the SC pulled in.

If its too wet to race, stop, and if its dry enough to start, start. Other than a few laps at a start to clear some standing water, I don't see the point in the SC being used when its raining. Just stop the race and wait. The result is the same, just we don't lose a bunch of racing laps in the middle.
 
i agree that canada was silly, but they had the right idea in trying to get it going again they just made the calls too late each time.
 
Yeah its the length of time they wasted that's the problem. They seem very slow to react and leave the SC out far to long.
 
I know it isnt the best analogy but sometimes the rubbish tire situation annoys me a lot as i feel it is akin to making premier league footballers wear wellington boots......
 
Are they running the grand prix at a stupid time of day again this year or have they moved it back to the proper local time?
 
Just spoke to my mate, reckons that the 27 is coming if they are more than 1sec off the pace, any less and they can find it in the 28
 
The main disadvantage with the Sky coverage at the moment is that every ad break has that god awful Santander ad with Jenson Button, Rory McIlroy and Jessica Ennis. They're all so wooden you could be mistaken for thinking it was a Ronseal ad.
