So what do people think, Riccy/Alonso to go to the end, or do a final medium tyre stint vs the other guys on hard tyres on the final stint?

Yes it is, a motorsport that has been fuel conscious due to its weight related handicap for many many years now. Now we get more visibility of it directly.
As do the other teams presumably, which adds an interesting strategical twist to things, all the teams knowing how good each other on fuel...
