There car is much more than that much faster when Hamilton is pushing it, the pace in the previous stint isn't relevant, Merc panicked and drove to a tire limit rather than car pace limit, he's easily taking that out of Vettel and later on the difference will be bigger with mediums vs hard in both their final stints. Will he do it, I don't know, it's more than possible.
Rosberg, when you have done 24 laps on a crap stint... you then go and try the exact same again. It won't work against Vettel... IF Hamilton can't make the tires work at this pace for long enough it could jump him ahead of Hamilton. Ultimately I think Hamilton's two more fast stint strategy is the only strategy that COULD beat Vettel, but it may fail. Rosberg's strategy for me can't in any way hope to beat Vettel.
To be fair, the car dosnt actually look THAT bad, just needs to work on reliability so they can turn the engine up more, i genuinely think when honda gets it all dialed in it will be a front running car especially with alonso as a driver.

No they played both. Rosberg was told he was targetting P2 but would need to pass Vettel on track.
