Man shot in head in the city

I'm struggling to follow this abortion of a thread. Partly because I cannot visit Twitter at work. If nobody was shot can we just ban OP for being a tard?

Sadly, we hear of, we think, of a 3rd suicide attempt this yr from same #CityofLondon address. A reminder that these are dark times for many

To be fair, it's the first time ive heard that phrase and I only live a few hours away from London. I generally don't have much to do with the place other than travelling between train stations on the tube.

"The city"... You realise there are other cities in the world don't you? I could understand you referring it to "the city" if we lived in a post apocalyptic wasteland where most of civilisation has been wiped out, and the survivors have come together to create a single megalithic super-metropolis, but last time I checked, this wasn't the case.

Don't worry, I didn't know about "the city" either. I think think it's fairly understandable that a lot of people who haven't lived in London probably don't.

particularly if they have never watched the news or read a newspaper and have no interest in the importance of financial services and banking to the health of the economy.

I take it that doing these things would give a categorical explanation of how "the city" refers to a specific and relatively small area of London?

**** off.

Yes, doing these things would give that understanding. 100%

Label me ignorant by all means, it's probably warranted, but I had no idea that the City of London was referred to by apparently everyone as the city.

I also didn't know that the city of London was only a square mile in size.

Yep. Parliament is also in the City of Westminster. London is just one big conurbation of small towns and cities. :)
