Reports on the radio this morning said that RvN will be starting on the bench.

lunacy, if he doesn't have an injury, why start with him on the bench? Seriously I didn't think Ferguson could get any worse, but we'll see  :p

@ bingham 67 ^^ that was an amazing fact :D I thought this was the era of saving energy, don't they have any long poles that we used to close windows at school with? ;)

it really is idiocy, the only reason i could think of starting Saha is because he's top scorer in the Carling Cup but since the majority of those goals have been against lower opposition and also include numerous missing of easy chances i dont understand it :(

On a side note Fergie accepts his job may be under threat Linky

yeah I read that, maybe it's to encourage our players to win the game I don't know. I somehow don't believe it, if he hasn't been shown the door for what he's done tactically and basically sacking Keane, he'll definitely not be sacked for not winning a Carling Cup.

What's wrong with that?

Ideally we'd have two proper DMFs but unfortunately we don't. Giggs and Fletch paired in the middle looked more solid than anything else we've played this season, ideally I'd prefer Alan Smith and Fletch for a bit more solidity, then if needs be bring Fletcher off for Giggs, put Giggsy into LW, Park into AMF and Ronaldo into RW.

Park is better on the right as he actually crosses, and it doesn't matter which side Ronaldo plays as he invariably cuts in anyway.

Yeah, but the game would've been lost anyway with the midfield that was played. I called it before the game.

Fletcher isn't nearly good enough, but thats exacerbated by him playing in the centre with Giggs.

I agree with Gilly, four wingers in midfield is not good enough against a solid midfield. They might be able to get away with it against smaller teams but, as Liverpool showed, anybody with a good set of proper CM will walk over Man United.

If I had my way Giggs and Fletcher wouldn't be playing for us. I'd much rather have Rooney playing alongside Ferdinand at the minute. An attacking player with a defensive minded player would work better than an ageing Giggs and that waste of space Fletcher.

The problem is we don't have any alternative, other than play O'Shea or Rio in MF.

A lot of people are suggesting Rooney in AMF behind Ruud and Saha but imo Saha isn't good enough and doesn't have anywhere near as good a partnership with Ruud as Rooney does.

Anyway...

3-1 United - Rooney, Ruud and Park

I agree but, I'd rather have someone a bit more solid in midfield than Giggs and the flakey Fletcher. If that means playing Rio or O'Shea in midfield then that's the way it is.

Saha is ok but, as we've said before, he slows things down a lot when in good positions rather than play a quick pass.

I'm off to the pub now, either to drown my sorrows or celebrate high-FIVE style.

O'Shea can't do it. O'Shea and Giggs might be better but O'Shea and Fletcher certainly isn't.

If it comes down to it I don't see why Rio can't do it. He played there for Leeds a couple of times and did OK.

Ironically Phil Neville was good in that position.

Phil Neville did an excellent job there when we played him in midfield. On another note, if Van Nistelrooy doesn't start I think he's going this summer. :(

I don't particularly like Saha, and I don't think he blends well with the team. Every game I've seen him this season especially with Giggs or Richardson on the pitch, he just misses obvious runs and crosses that Rooney and Van Nistelrooy would spot a mile off.
