Man U Vs Wigan ** Carling Cup Final **spoilers**

Disappointed in not seeing RN not getting called up, you could see the heartbreak in his eyes. Even though Saha paid off in the end, he should have got some of the game.
Enjoyed the game, unlucky wigan, they never really turned up today. I was looking forward to a close game...

Saha can score, but he is very injury prone. I would not be building Utd's future around such a player. He cost £12.8 million and is on an estimated £3.5 -£4 million pounds a year salary. In the two and a bit years we have had him, he has been sidelined for the majority of it. He has played more football for us in the last 3 months than he has in the previous 22 months at Old Trafford. I feel bad for him because it isn't his fault he is so injury prone.

But I wouldn't overshadow what Van Nistelrooy has done for us this season. He is the league's top goalscorer with 19 goals in 25 games. If it wasn't for his goals we would be midtable without a doubt. They are both different types of players, but the combination of RVN and Rooney in my opinion is far more lethal and would be my choice for the front two, game in game out.

I agree that Saha gives us a different option, he has a different style of play. But the lack of a good touch on the ball, not being able to hold the ball against players without falling over and not seeing obvious attacks when presented to him are the reasons I wouldn't be playing him ahead of Van Nistelrooy.

You want passion, why did Rvn stand around doing nothing agaisnt the Bindippers? Saha came on and looked like he gave a damn against out biggest rivals

I don't know, maybe it was the combination of Giggs, Fletcher and Richardson behind him trying to win the ball and string two passes together. He was so frustrated at times he was back tackling and winning the ball outside our penalty box. Rooney as well. There's only so much a striker can do when the players behind him are falling over their arses.

Saha and fresh legs do not = passion.

Enjoyable game. Comfortable, maybe a touch flatering scoreline though. Wigan looked good at times, but we pounced on mistakes well.

I wonder why so many teams struggle with Wigan though, everytime we play them we look comfortably the better side.

I was dissapointed not to see Ruud play too, but I don't think he's off anywhere soon. We love him, and I think he loves us too (although apparently the Stretford enders don't. First I've heard of it). I don't think he's the kind of player to get that upset over being dropped for one game.

I like Saha as a second choice striker, he gives us another option. But take him over Ruud? God no.

It said Carling cup final the date and i would imagine MU v Wigan Athletic

Teams always put things like that on the shirts in every cup final

Cant believe you have never seen it before

Just got back from the game now after staying in Hereford and it was a good experience and a good game, a good turnout from the Wigan fans although they were incredibly quiet and all the Man Utd fans who went didn't seem to know the songs (I, and 7 others were in Riza or something like that singing the songs and other people just didn't know them, passing by the toilet one of our guys said someone was complaining about "That loud group singing" claiming "They've probably never been to Old Trafford"... yeah... season ticket holders).

The only real low point was some stupid Man Utd fans singing songs about Hillbrough, which was a disgrace and I felt ashamed having them support the same team as myself.

I absolutely hate this result as it means people won't ask questions of SAF's awful decisions. Why was Ruud not given some time on the pitch? I could seriously see him leaving after what was a big slap in the face from Fergie. Evra, Richardson and Vidic need playing time, but not over Ruud. I feel pretty annoyed at Ruud not getting any time.

He can't do right for doing wrong? He finally drops Fletcher and Richardson as people ask for (and plays Ronaldo and Park as people ask for) and we score 4 goals, yet it was still a mistake? You can't drop Saha who has scored more goals than anyone in the Carling Cup (Ruud's played less than 1 game all told I believe) and plays 4-4-2, yet it's still a mistake? I don't feel any sympathy for Ruud at all, he never got us here with his goals and he was abysmal against Liverpool. People ask for Ferguson to play people on form, he does it and people have a go because he hasn't picked "The favourites". Honestly, some fans are so fickle it annoys me.

Man UTD overjoyed with carling Cup win, oh how the mighty have fallen. ;)

It was only a few years back when Man UTD fans were cockily telling me how domestic trophies were 'mickey mouse' cups and that the Champions League was where it's at.

It is a poor-mans trophy, however, only 1 team will get it this year. You can only play your best on the day, 1 trophy is better than none. It was still our 4th priority at the start of the season and it will be next too. Did you really expect them not to celebrate it?

could well have just started the ball rolling to losing arguably our best player.

He'd have to hold a strong argument for me to believe he was our best player.

Our defense has looked diabolical other than the excellent Wes Brown, Rio has fallen over a few times, Neville getting beaten to easily and Silvestre is as pants as ever. O'Shea misplacing passes all over the shop.
Wes Brown was awesome, but so was Ferdinand (for the whole game). He won the ball every time bar one where Camera had a shot.

Saha needs to come off for the 2nd half. He had three clear cut scoring chances in the first 20mins and squandered them all - I was thinking FA Cup final before Andy Gray said it. I guarantee we'd have been 2-0 up if Ruud was on the pitch. Ronaldo is looking a bit dire again and Park is as good ever :)

Saha wasn't clinical infront of goal, however, he outjumped his man for the flick-on every time and played very well in the hole for the 2nd half.

Ronaldo was lively for the 1st half and only lacked the final product (2nd half he was excellent), Park however was abysmal from the 1st til the last minute, how you saw otherwise I will never know.

Ruud was quite obviously narked at not getting on, but in the end, we didnt NEED him to come on.
I would have had him on first thing in the second half to put Wigan away, as i have no faith in Saha's ability to score goals when it matters, his reactions are just so sloooooooooooow.
However, he did score in the end so Ruud didnt need to come on.
He is a big boy, he will understand that.

It was a slap in the face regardless of the result. If Saha fumbling the ball into the net is Fergusons reasoning that it paid off starting him.... well....

To not play our best striker in the only Cup Final we have this season and the only chance of a medal is madness. I don't care what RVN will come out and say to try and diffuse any situation between him and Ferguson, deep down as a footballer he wanted to play. It's not like Ferguson didn't have options to bring him on like dropping Rooney into midfield, taking O'Shea off and putting Van Nistelrooy up front. No other team would have done that to their best striker. I mean, can you imagine Arsenal dropping Henry, or Chelsea dropping Crespo? He brought Richardson, Vidic and Evra on for God sake!!

Van Nistelrooy was warming up behind the nets and celebrated when Saha scored, and Neville ran straight for him. He applauded the United fans after the game and then quietly slipped away. This is his third medal with the club in nearly 5 yrs. 1 Premiership medal, 1 F.A Cup and a Carling Cup medal.

"It happened to me in the Scottish Cup final in 1965 and I was dropped at 10 past two." That's ok then Ferguson, because it happened to you 40 yrs ago.....

Perhaps it was the fact he scored one and played a part in the other 3?
