Man with a knife

I'm surprised at the number of posters on this thread that carry a knife with them. I would have thought that no one would need to carry a knife in a public place except if it was a work tool. I have never had a knife in a public place and never needed one either.

I used to carry one all the time, but now I just keep a multitool in the car cos I've become lazy and don't walk too many places any more if I'm not driving somewhere first.

Bit of excitement here tonight - Heard the sirens so went out to look - women and kids all huddled up and police surrounding them for protection.

I thought WTF - turns out a 5 year old kid threatened them with a sharpened candyfloss on a stick.:rolleyes:

A knife, in the car? Damn I feel a bit heavy handed then. I got an axe, a Chinese army shovel, a tree saw, and rather often than not, a shotgun or two as well

I like to have a lock knife longer than 3" always accessible, 1.\ cos its frickin useful for a lot of things ! 2.\ cos you can buy a decent enough Winchester one from Walmart for $5, so why not have a few knocking around.

Glad i'm allowed too also ! Nanny gov in the UK. Got one in my car, got one sitting right here now infront of me at work, one in every main drawer at home so i don't have to go around looking for one, when i need it... Whenever i need to open a box, just whip it out, and open it !!!! No i am never going to stab someone, like the 99.9% of people in the UK wouldn't be doing so. I'm glad the government here, isn't treating me like a child who needs a smack on the hand and a telling off in way of a criminal record, cos of the occasional idiot,

I accept knives are useful and am also mindful of how different nations have different levels of acceptability of things that can be regarded as potential weapons, but a knife in every main drawer in the house, really?

How much time can having a knife in every main drawer in the house actually save? A few seconds? Is going to the kitchen drawer or toolbox really that much of a chore?

I would question the true motive of someone who feels the need to have a knife in every room of the house.

I've had moderate use for a small penknife or multitool for scissor or screwdriver like functionality the blade doesn't see much use. However I have considered a few reasons where I might find the blade useful in an emergency i.e. if I was a passenger in someone's car who might or might not carry something for cutting seatbelts should the worst happen (bit of a pertinent one for me as when I was a kid we were one of the first on the scene of an accident).

Oh my God I'm so Sorry, did I say foreigner oh my god I'm so sorry, oh no did I say God? Oh no I'm so sorry.

No need to apologise dear, calm down. I don't think anyone cared really, I just thought it was rather odd that it seemed to play such an important role in your thought process.

I know many tools that carry knives around!
Bloody foreigners, coming over here, whittling our sticks.

rofl

I often find knives and other sharp tools in my pockets, i just forget to take them out of my pockets before i leave work though. The only person that ever gets hurt is me though when i forget theyre in there and i put my hand later.

Its ok love im calm, im just saying sorry for saying a word you seem to have a problem with. I didnt say it played "such an important role in my thought process" you did. It played a part though if you read the op.

Back to the matter in hand i shall be honest and say i didnt know the laws on carrying knifes around. I thought it was against the law to carry any blade in public but as this thread has brought up 3"< non locking knifes are leagal and plenty carry them which is a suprise to me.

I can understand carrying swiss army knife/multi tools etc as they are very handy. To whip a knife out around familys i think is a bit weird.

You haven't given the most important bit of information, was he one of them foreigns?!?!

To whip a knife out around familys i think is a bit weird.

Better avoid going to any restaurants in future then (or at least foreign ones :p)

Yeah, that's the point - It's like outlawing a sharpened pencil.
I'm not going to stop until a cop actually takes it off me, really.

So you'll continue to knowingly break the law? Interesting approach. It may well not be a confiscation, but rather more a case of being prosecuted.

Because this works fine for my purposes, because it's something I've had ever since I first joined the Army, because I can't open that page here at work and because it sounds suspiciously like you're on commission...? :p

You think I'd be chasing you for some commission? Amusing. :p

They're a very good company with excellent customer service and the best selection of UK legal carry blades within our shores.

I have no need to get commission to recommend them.

This is my every-day-carry:

It's most practical for: cleaning my nails, prizing stones from my tyre-treads, fighting off Zulus at Rourke's Drift with Michael Caine.

So you'll continue to knowingly break the law?
Yup.
Were it a 10" Jimmy Lyle, that'd be courting disaster, but like I said, it's less that 1" long - It'd have to be one seriously bad day for a cop to even notice it on my key bundle, let alone arrest me, imprison me and then prosecute me to the fullest extent of the law while ignoring all the other stuff going on out there...!!

??? yes cos i'm secretly hoping that an intruder makes his way into my home so i can stab him up. erm no, its cos i like to have useful things such as knives, and screwdrivers not too far away, so i have one to hand when needed. Bit like a torch.. I have plenty of those too. Another one is screwdrivers. Keep my main tools in my garage, but i do have some in the kitchen, and in my den. Is that true enough motive for you? Besides all of which, i live in America and am allowed to own guns, real ones not silly air ones, so if an intruder did ever make his way into my home, which happens to be in a gated community, in a town where crime hardly exists, then i'll just shoot the b'tard. with the comfort that the law is behind me.

So the only situation you can come up with for having oen is box opwning.

Something that usualy anshort knife is much better for cause you dont scratch up your stuff

You have at least 10 knives there, how often are you using them?

As i gotta say i use a knfie for non cookign things like once a month tops maybe?

An escape tool would br better for that.

Or if you do worry about seatbels gerber do a little key ring belt cutter.

Tiny thing fully shrouded blade etc.
