Man with hiccups for 2 years.

I'm amazed you managed to a get a referal in this country, I've been trying to get a referal for gastric reflux for ages, but my GP is a total **** and won't refer me instead telling me he can offer lansoprazole and metoclopramide, a drug which causes tardive dyskinesia.

Just googled it and looks bad! My surgoeon told me that I have no choice but surgery, as if I stay on the lansoprazole would be bad as they cause cancer in lab rat tests. However no tablets (which means daily pain) means I get throat cancer.

The operation has really helped me. The PH test did not show normal reslts but I got the operation anyway. The endoscopy (before the PH test) showed a small hiayus hernia iirc.

I used to take Lansoprazole every day and drinking would make the burnin reflux worse.
I used to eat quite fast and in the opinion of many, not chew properly, but on hindsight I did not need to as my stomach valve was so loose.

I used BUPA as the NHS waits ages and ages and ages and ages.

I now have ZERO burning and a few months after the op I can eat normally. I really cannot recommend the operation more. My only complain is that the nurses (whilst very good) where not as tasty as I had hoped.

Did you have the new incisionless procedure or the old style nissen fundoplication?
