Manager Merry Go Round 2014

big payday for the saints from spurs no doubt which begs the question, why didn't spurs go after him before!?

Why didn't Spurs go after him before?

Probably because he was a complete unknown really, he'd managed at Espanyol and didn't do horrifically (11th, 14th, 14th and left in 20th) but it was still a big gamble bringing him to the Southampton at the time he came in.

The first season he didn't really do anything outstanding or make the team perform significantly better than Adkins had been (joined 15th, finished 14th), however he had clear plans in place and you could see the potential which was realised this season by achieving 8th and the highest club points total ever.

Before this season with Southampton though, showing he could take a young team with virtually no superstar names to 8th in the league, he wouldn't have been on the radar of any top 10 team IMO.

this is one of my concerns, how's he going to handle certain players manu, vert, rose? all are capable of throwing a wobbly

also, didn't southampton have a pretty poor end to the season?

Well in the case of Osvaldo, ship him off to Italy :p

End of the season wasn't particularly poor, shouldn't have to lost to Cardiff but the only losses other than that since March were Liverpool, City and Spurs which were to be expected. Perhaps a few more draws than we ought to have had but at the same time, we'd have needed a monster end to the season to overtop Utd into 7th so I suspect there was an element of coasting - we weren't likely to finish in 9th either.

Last 10 games, we won 5, drew 2 and lost 3. Comparing to Spurs who won 5, drew 1 and lost 4.

So it's sounding like they gave Seedorf the role at Milan while Inzaghi was the youth team coach. Seedorf turned around a terrible season.

First 19 games before Seedorf, 22 points, 5 wins, 7 draws, 7 losses. Since he took over 35 points, 11 wins, 2 draws, 6 losses. It's not epic but he was taking over a team in freefall and did a fantastic job for his first time in charge.

Seedorf was getting points at a rate that would have been an easy 4th for the season, when he took over they were on course for a 13-14th place finish.

So they are seemingly set to fire Seedorf(gave him a contract to end of 15/16 season) and promote Inzaghi to first team manager... because of all his experience with the youth team.

Meh, it might be that Inzaghi makes a great manager, but Seedorf did a fantastic job there when everyone expected basically nothing from him. With the squad he had, 35 points was a fantastic achievement.

About as bad as getting rid of Sherwood(equally good but with a less bad manager before him so the difference wasn't as obvious).

Poch gone then, disappointing but not unexpected. Now this will go one of two ways:

1 - we get in someone who knows what he's doing, we don't lose so many points from winning positions and get top 4 before Spurs.

OR

2 - all our best players leave, we get mediocre ones in, go back to relegation battles.

Hmmm i wonder? It has been a while since we've had a decent relegation battle (last year doesn't count we were so safe we could afford a **** end of season run), i've missed it tbh.

I think the 5 years concerns me a lot too.

Also can't help but think Levy is just hoping Poch makes something out of our youth so we can make a load of money too.

Really not sure how I feel about this one :(

Pretty sure we'll now lose our better players before an appointment is made making us an unattractive option to the kind of appointment us fans want. We'd then be left with someone like Mackay, Garcia or Lennon as a replacement , which would be gutting. Really gutting.

I see he's resigned. Does that mean we'll not be getting compensated?

He'll be gone in January, and Southampton will get Moyes in after their team is gutted in the summer.

Let the exodus of players commence.

Everyone good will be gone, the team will be a shell and only the most desperate will want the job. Hello Mr Moyes :p
