Mantle and Frame Latency

Easy. No need to be hostile - as usual. My original point was and is, that looking for frame time consistencies accurately and locating runt frames doesn't appear to be something that can be done directly on any software tools, a capture card and appropriate software is required. This is news to me also as I only really looked at what FCAT does vs everything else earlier today.

Its not to say its giving 'wrong' information, its just likely not to be anywhere near as accurate as a capture setup.

Oh and do your self a favor, chill out, its a forum, stamping about the place like a mad 5 year old isn't helping anyone.

Not being hostile - My bad if it come across like that. Am here to learn also and I was wondering if you knew the answer to my question.

The performance Graph I feel is best we have and gives a good enough results. Like when my spike happened I seen that happen in game and in Graph in real time. That also showed up in the file...

So I feel its giving a very accurate result if its show casing what I am seeing in game.

To a degree yes it is the best we have, but my overall point is the fcat readings are taken from what's actually displayed on screen rather then what is rendered at engine/driver level to give an as-close to perfect representation of frame timing and perceived smoothness.

It could be the parts you feel drop and show as drop in frame times are merely just parts where the overall frame rate drops, i.e. dropping 120 to 60fps would show as a drop from ~7ms to ~16ms and the smoothness of mantle is more to do with consistent frame rates then times as in that situation mantle may only drop from 7ms to say 9ms.

Tbh, today I've learned quite a bit on this and my conclusion is that looking for accurate frame times is near impossible for someone that doesn't have deep pockets and a lot of time to do the work, so something unfortunately best left to reviewers, unless the capture card in question stops costing a grand :p

Oh and appologies for snapping, was just getting a bit frustrated :)

No problem about snapping, we all have our moments :D

I think some of the issue is smoothness like noise is different for most individuals so whats smooth to you isnt always to another. And it seems without the right hardware to measure and use these tools properly its always going to be up for debate.

I thought NV gave pcper the test equipment & software, then they just did what they were told?

Ryan was accused of Nvidia funding it and denied it to the max, went to great lengths on various forums by showing receipts for the tech that he paid for with his own cash.

Not coincidental in the slightest that other review sites all thought of the exact same tech at the same time, I believe him too I do, honest.:p

Tbh I'd be surprised if Nvidia didn't at least source it for him, the whole kit out for capture via FCAT doesn't appear cheap in the slightest:

Capture card: £1050
4xSSD RAID 0/PCIE SSD: £500 (at least given time of purchase!)
Gefen 1:2 DVI-DL Splitter: £300
Recommended rig to run it all: £500 (based on recommendations of a decent Z77+ setup)

Thats a fair chunk of cash to review something 99% of us had/have no interest in.
