Mantle Feedback/Bugs

i7 920 @ 4 GHZ.

It's not working again, i've submitted a ticket to AMD about the issues.

That's a solid CPU is that, your not going to gain anything from a Haswell i5, rest assured.

If I delete both the Cache files that Matt pointed to the game will load fine.

After one map the game refuses to load.

Mantlepipelinecache and Mantlepipelinecache2.

Did you delete;

WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 1

And

UI.DrawEnable 1

From the User config file in the BF4 directory?

I also love Mantle.

I just need Dice to fix the stall i get every 5 minutes or so.

Aside from that though...

+1'd. Awesome vid shanks.

things have been running much better for me with the 14.2 driver. i dont get the pauses i used to in the original mantle driver.
more importantly its been working for a few days now and i havnt had to uninstall/reinstall the driver yet.

newbie question

Does the mantle patch show an image difference between the Nvidia cards? I thought I read something about AMDS mantle cheating and its image quality was not on par with Nvidias which was why it was faster...

Also has BF4 been patched to the point its now fully playable or still some bugs and issues present ?

There's no image quality difference. If anything, the extra frames that Mantle gets you can be spent on increasing image quality if you want to up your game settings. There was a distance fog bug, but the Frostbite guys said it was their fault and fixed it in a patch.

So i still have my Intel graphics enabled with Mantle.. anybody else tried this or is it just me? Anyway i did a video using OBS running Mantle on BF4 in borderless mode. Uploading video now.

Btw borderless mode resolution is 1918x1078 if anybody was wondering.

Heres the video..

BF4 Metro 2014 (Mantle - All High Settings & 2xMSAA 1080p on 64 player Server)

Intel 2700K @ 4.5GHz & Sapphire 7950 @ 1100/1600.

Game played @ 1080p with OBS recording & downscaling to 720p with Intel Quick Sync enabled in OBS. Looks like they fixed Integrated graphics being enabled with Mantle running. No more BF4 options menu crash.. least for me anyway :)

As usual Youtube like to take away image quality

it seems i spoke too soon although performance is still good in mantle bf4 and other games my gpu seems to idle in some kind of weird state.
the card is overclocked +100mv 1150/1325MHz
it runs at 1.266v 1150/1325MHz in game
however it idles at 1.313v 1024MHz/and the memory jumps up and down between 150 and 1325

if i reset to stock settings the card is normal in game
but idles at 1.227v 1000MHz/and again memory hops up and down.

i am concerned that the idle voltage is actually bigger than in game voltage.

reboot or shutdown makes no difference still remains in that weird state . only fix is to reinstall driver and it works as normal for a while.

It'll run at lower volts in game because of vdroop. All graphics cards and CPUs experience this. Your memory is probably down clocking in 2d mode to save energy.

what is the 1 2 3 4 card Xfire scaling like under mantle Vs DX.

Do we see better scaling going beyond 2 cards or does it remain roughly in line with direct X?

For the most part both CF/SLI in DX has scaled well going from 1 to 2 cards. but 3-4 has never been amazing, often seeing huge issues and even worse performance when we start talking 4 cards.

Just wondering if this remains so with mantle. (Don't have the cards to test this sorry :( )

BIG NEWS!!

CRYENGINE To Support Mantle, AMD Gets Another Endorsement

While I do not have too many details otherwise, Crytek and AMD have announced that mainline CRYENGINE will support the Mantle graphics API. CRYENGINE, by Crytek, now sits alongside Frostbite, by Dice, and Nitrous, by Oxide Games, as engines which support that alternative to DirectX and OpenGL. This comes little more than a week after their announcement of native Linux support with their popular engine.

Crytek has been "evaluating" the API for quite some time now, showing interest back at the AMD Developer Summit. Since then, they have apparently made a clear decision on it. It is also not the first time that CRYENGINE has been publicly introduced to Mantle, with Chris Robert's Star Citizen, also powered by the 4th Generation CRYENGINE, having announced support for the graphics API. Of course, there is a large gap between having a licensee do legwork to include an API and having the engine developer provide you supported builds (that would be like saying UnrealEngine 3 supports the original Wii).

Hopefully we will learn more as GDC continues.

Editor's (Ryan) Take: said:
As the week at GDC has gone on, AMD continues to push forward with Mantle and calls Crytek's implementation of the low level API "a huge endorsement" of the company's direction and vision for the future. Many, including myself, have considered that the pending announcement of DX12 would be a major set back for Mantle but AMD claims that is "short sited" and as more developers come into the Mantle ecosystem it is proof AMD is doing the "right thing."

Here at GDC, AMD told us they have expanded the number of beta Mantle members dramatically with plenty more applications (dozens) in waiting. Obviously this could put a lot of strain on AMD for Mantle support and maintenance but representatives assure us that the major work of building out documentation and development tools is nearly 100% behind them.

If stories like this one over at Semiaccurate are true, and that Microsoft's DirectX 12 will be nearly identical to AMD Mantle, then it makes sense that developers serious about new gaming engines can get a leg up on projects by learning Mantle today. Applying that knowledge to the DX12 API upon its release could speed up development and improve implementation efficiency. From what I am hearing from the few developers willing to even mention DX12, Mantle is much further along in its release (late beta) than DX12 is (early alpha).

AMD indeed was talking with and sharing the development of Mantle with Microsoft "every step of the way" and AMD has stated on several occasions that there were two outcomes with Mantle; it either becomes or inspires a new industry standard in game development. Even if DX12 is more or less a carbon copy of Mantle, forcing NVIDIA to implement that API style with DX12's release, AMD could potentially have the advantage of gaming performance and support between now and Microsoft's DirectX release. That could be as much as a full calendar year from reports we are getting at GDC.
