Mantle vS 780Ti in BF4

I still completely disagree that is defending of either a brand or card. Greg won't mind me saying because he says it himself but he is a nVidia fan. A fan of their products. But I think to say he's defending them there or their cards is incorrect. He just looks to be making a point.

Alas he's big enough and ugly enough to look after himself :D.

Also, come on...

Look at the performance gain on the A10. That's efficiency right there...

Leave alone going straight to the highest figure and trying to hang for witchcraft :D. The Ti is a monster, it's not as though they're saying Mantle is broken. They could have tested the 780 GTX and then gone on to say Mantle isn't worth the time of day. But they didn't, they've shown what they went out to, which is that Mantle is removing a **** ton of overhead.

I think we all know what Greg is like and he will defend Nvidia to the death. :p

Its up to Dice, pretty sure AMD won't have had any say in it. But yes i agree, it should just have a consistent in game benchmark. I'll tweet Johan our two cents. :p

Partnerships are bilateral.

It's in AMDs interests to have the benefits of Mantle reported accurately and in a way that benefits them. By having multiple sites with multiple different angles on what it offers with some showing it faster than a Ti some not, it isn't presenting a coherent message.

Not their fault but they could have leaned on DICE to build it in. I wasn't suggesting it was up to AMD to implement a benchmark but they could have done more I'm sure. After all they've kicked down the cash.

Ha ha. Yeah tweet away. It can't harm!

Perhaps so. I just thought it wide of the mark for this thread. I'm not his dad after all - he's old enough to be my grandad though

They might have a say for Battlefield 5, if Dice end up making that. But Battlefield 4 would have already been largely finished by the time AMD got onboard. Also Mantle was added on to BF4, not there from the start. It was an afterthought at best and we all know that. Its up to Dice to add a benchmark and i hope they do. At least in future releases.

Also, tweeted. ;)

Well then don't get up in arms when the performance isn't what it could have been ;)

Greg you didn't tell me you knew George Clooney. :D

Is that your old man?

Ok, for clarification, I ran Matt's bench test with a single Titan @ stock clock (Asus stock BIOS) and did 2 tests. Full ultra @ 1440P and 1080P.

1440P results
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
6684, 118389, 42, 74, 56.458

1080P results
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
7703, 91042, 68, 118, 84.609

Now remember that this is full ultra with 4xmsaa and motion blur. Feel free to show me your scores with stock 290X's at either/both of those settings and let's see what is what :)

I have to agree.

To be completely honest, I wasn't really expecting Mantle would improvement hugely on graphic terms for high-end graphic cards. I've always been more interested on the aspect of removing/lowering CPU limitation, and Mantle managed that alright.

I honestly think Mantle greatest potential lies with RTS and MMOs (just imagine the scenerio 40-60 players in one area and still be able to maintain 60fps!...if the developers would adapt Mantle that is) where you'd get stupidly low frame rate due to CPU bottleneck, or for people such myself that game on 120Hz/144Hz monitors, who have been constantly shaking our fists at both AMD and Intel for not delivering CPUs that can hold solid minimum 100fps in most demanding games (you can drop the graphic setting through the ground, and still get dips and can't hold solid 100fps due to CPU limitation).

It wasn't just this post but a few others too, regarding this 290X Vs 780Ti BS.

A point based on what though rusty? NM i can't arsed, GREG IS A GREEN SLIMEY NVIDIA LOVING GOBBLIN!

There i said it. lol.

I'm off for a full breaky, need to refuel.

Its not a fair comparison Greg as the scene i benched is massively cpu/api bottlenecked. Its a very heavy test on the cpu+gpu. We know this because using your same 6 core 12 thread cpu Dice got a 58% performance boost on that scene when using Xfire on Mantle vs DX. To get a fair and decent comparison the person would need the same cpu as you, running at the same speed.

14% improvement for me. Single 290 at stock. Can't test crossfire yet unfortunately.

14.1 Beta

Please feel free to add 25Mhz to the clocks and run again and anyone with a 290X, feel free to join in and likewise with a 780Ti. Remember, stock clocks and full ultra settings.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
6684, 118389, 42, 74, 56.458

I know yours is a 290 Matt but Mantle isn't looking like it will ridicule a 780/Titan in BF4 with a 290X just yet ;)
