Manual gearboxes make me mad

After years of driving luxo barges with automatic transmissions, I recently got a 540i with a 6-speed manual.
My driving style has now changed from slow and steady to mental full throttle and hard braking everywhere. Might be the howl of the V8 that's doing it but I think it's the gearbox.

Has anyone else noticed this after going from auto to manual?

I found the opposite when I went to a V6 Automatic Hire car in the USA from my MX5. I was constantly flooring it to be the car to shift!

The main thing I find when driving manual's after automatics is I forget to put the clutch down when rolling to a stop (and then wonder why the vehicle is juddering!) or, I simply forget to change gear - large diesels get very quiet near the red-line which only makes this problem worse.

Thankfully, all of the trucks at my depot are now automatics, that said, Scania's throw me after driving DAFs for a few weeks as Scanias have clutch pedals despite being automatic, the clutch is used for pulling off and once on the move, the truck changes without you having to touch the clutch, if only I could remember this! :D

my DC2 does feel a little weird driving around town

5th feels like the best gear for a 40 zone, in 3rd or 4th, you're on the verge of ffffffFFFFWWAAAAAAAAAHHHH

Read this Gajin.

Now put the VTEC Defence Force Tshirt away and notice my comment was addressing Scoobys post about 4 cylinder engines in GENERAL.

I like this T Shirt and shall wear it till I die Fux.

I found that driving a Golf with the DSG box compared to the Manual made me drive it harder and more agressive, it was so much fun :)

Thats because it has a VTEC engine and therefore doesn't actually go anywhere at a pace exceeding that of a milkfloat unless you drive like that.

Quoted for pure stupidity, made me lol anyway. Fox my boy, you have a lot to learn.

Also as for 4 pot cars having no torque either, I'm quite happy with my 235lb/ft thank you :)

Fox how many Type Rs have you driven to come to this conclusion? I've driven my own Type R EP3 from a few years back and a 56 reg rental for a few days, definetly not anything like you describe, it certainly felt quite well paced even at low revs.

As to the OP, yep i find i drive more sedately when driving an auto and really go mental at times in a manual.
