Manufacturer preferences

Does anyone else have a similar problem?

For me I don't seem to be interested in any other manufacturers other than Japanese car manufacturers I've tried a few, 2 Renaults an Audi and a Vauxhall which is probably why I have this preference as none of them were fault free where as the Jap cars have been fine.

What I want from my next car next year is a five door hatch, petrol, FWD with around 200BHP and five doors. In terms of modern jap cars they don't seem to exist its one extreme to the other, too slow or too much power for what I need, there's the Mazda MPS but I don't need that kind of performance and the tax puts me off a little, the Swift Sport which doesn't have enough, the FN2 only has three doors and I've already had one so don't really want another.

If you look at other marques, there's loads to choose from, Megane, Leon, Golf, Octavia, A3 (Mostly VAG) etc

Another thing for me is the social side, me and a mate tend to go to Jap car meets quite often and I like the Japanese modifying culture, other marques just aren't the same

Anyone else have a preference that you justify to yourself or is it just me? :o

No, I like cars from all sorts of manufacturers. Nationality doesn't bother me either.

I do very much favour Japanese cars, for some reason European stuff just doesn't interest me anywhere near as much. I do respect a lot of it, BMW M cars etc however i wound't look twice at a Ferrari or Lamborghini as they hold zero interest for me but if i see something JDM i'm all over it...

I wouldn't dismiss a car simply becuase of it's manufacturer but I've found that my tastes are generally met by particular manufacturers - for example I probably wouldn't ever buy a Renault, not because I've anything against Renault but because they just don't make the sort of cars I tend to prefer, thats all.

I have a lot of respect for other manufacturers like BMW for one and some Renaults, they make great cars, I just couldn't buy one over a Japanese car as I feel like I'd be missing out on something, I really want to get over it as I would quite like the additional options but there is something about Japanese cars that I love of which I couldn't even explain if I wanted to, its a bit weird TBH

The lines are blurred nowadays though.

Take the Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 for example. Are they Japanese or French? No, they're built in the Czech Republic, and have been designed by the joint venture, TPCA. So where exactly is that car "from"?

What about the Nissan Juke? Japanese? Or British? Since they are built in the Sunderland plant, to Japanese specification.

The Germans aren't what they used to be, check out most reliability surveys based on warranty claims and the Japanese manufacturers sit on top closely followed by Koreans

Exactly. Mercedes always had an image of being the German version of a piece of granite. The 00's really put a stop to that reputation in my eyes which they are still trying to recover from.

But the German cars I've owned didn't rattle like a school bus, the Japanese cars I've owned did. That said, in my opinion, trying to compare German performance with Japanese is like comparing apples and oranges.

I don't have a preference for any specific manufacturer. There are some that I just wouldn't even consider though.

Renault
Peugeot
Citroen

Awful cars and awful dealers.
