Marathon

Managed to get a few more games in over lunch. Really enjoying it and I'm preferring the challenge of playing it solo rather than in random groups although I expect it's fantastic playing in a trio with people you know.

Last night I was on Perimeter by the hauler and playing as a Rook. I could hear someone somewhere nearby so I put the Rook's Signal Mast on and a few seconds later, the runner just ran straight past me. He ran outside and looted outside and I was able to take him out. Then a few minutes later towards the end of the round, the same thing happened again!

I find this more haunting to play than Arc Raiders when I've got headphones on. The sound design is amazing!

I've seen a few articles saying how the game is struggling for players though. I hope the dev's keep working on it and it's gains some more traction.

I had some good games on this over the weekend as a solo player.

On one, I was on Perimeter and I could hear footsteps so I stopped, hid and about 30 seconds later, a guy ran around the corner, didn't see me and he just kept running. He stopped to loot a box and then ran on. I had my friendly arc raiders lobby hat on so I fired a warning shot and he looked at me, crouched up and down, I crouched up and down and we went our separate ways.

Five minutes later in the same game, I then came around a corner and I was right behind another guy for about 5 seconds. Could have taken him out but I thought, "nah - be friendly". He turned around and just hammered me and I died. Note to self: This isn't Arc Raiders.

Really enjoying it at the moment. I wish it had more attention!

I'm surprised it wasn't on sale a bit sooner. The numbers have been on a steady decline. It does genuinely look good, but I just can't see Sony *not* pulling the plug in the next few months.

I enjoyed what I played of it in Season 1 but the loading times were really putting me off.

Felt like I was just sitting for ages watching moths rather than playing the game.

just tried to have some games to see new updates / etc but servers really struggling! Hopefully it's a good sign of a lot of trial people coming in who will hopefully stay / boost numbers.

I just can't get past the art style for this game. I know it probably plays so well, being a Bungie game.. but yeah, doesn't appeal to me at all!

Had a couple runs earlier. Seems like UEC are a little easier now, and I like that you need the UEC credits to do stuff now, makes tackling them actually worthwhile rather than something you just avoid. Loot they dropped seemed better too.

Did two runs on Dire Marsh night and exfiled with stuff successfully both times. Didn't see any other runners. Like the dark map.

I guess the free week means there's a lot of newbies around so you don't get ganked instantly when you make a noise.

Be on for a few hours today if anyone wants to team up.

Have been starting to really get into it....understanding the different systems more. Getting contracts done isn't dependent on a successful exfil so you can still get some good progress even if you end up getting stomped.

Still playing Vandal all the time as I like the mobility, just get the hell out of dodge if things get a bit too spicy. Starting to get a feel for the weapons....and build up a decent vault.

I will keep flying the flag :)

Just enjoying Marathon more, the more I keep playing and getting into it.

They dropped the ball really not having a better onboarding process, because if you do persevere and take the time to learn all the different systems and maps it’s a really rewarding game.

I successfully exfil 90% of the time now, once you get a feel for the flow of a session it’s much easier. Keep an eye on the map, understand how many exfils have gone, how many runners you’ve encountered, where on the map they are. You learn how much time and space you have at the beginning of a run before you’re likely to encounter other runners.

it’s a much more fun game playing solo than Apex Legends, although on the flip side, playing trios with randoms is super frustrating. It needs so much coordination and the ping system just isn’t as good as apex.

Core mechanics, movement, gunplay is all top notch. Although it’s desperately missing a firing range to get a feel for the rarer weapons, I’m scared to use them without practice!

Started doing the Arachne (pvp) faction contracts. It’s actually much less stressful hunting players, rather than trying to do the PvE contracts while being hunted by other players :P

Can’t be too long before they consider the permanent f2p move on this one, the player count this weekend is rough. The f2p week got them numbers, and then collapsed way back down.

Sure it'll need to go F2P at some point. There's some new solo content coming on 21st July which will be interesting, needs more stuff like that.

I really enjoy the core game solo (more so than BR like Apex). Playing trios with randoms is just really, really bad though.

Be interesting to see how overall numbers are affected in Europe during these heatwaves, main reason I've not been playing much. Will get back to it more when it cools off.
