Marble Arch Mound

Bizarre idea, poorly executed. Some kind of encouragement to get folk to go and visit Parliament Hill would have been a much better use of funds.

What a stupid idea. 6m on a pile of dirt and grass for 6 months. Think of the possible better uses of that money. Absolutely bewildering

Just a bit of fun... sort of, considering that a huge amount of taxpayer's money has probably been spent on it.

A huge mound has been erected at Marble Arch as a new tourist experience.

I recommend watching the video.

What were they thinking?! This is a horrible idea, horribly executed :o

Would you pay to walk up the mound?

You have to pay to walk up it? Haha, what were they thinking?

Glad one moron has resigned but the idiots in charge of him should go too. Absolutely moronic idea.

Got to be a scam right?
Like a family member is contracted to build it?

Cannot surely be someone's idea that others approved? Just can't believe that

London weighting has got out of hand, that pile of earth would have cost hundreds of quid somewhere rural, rather than six million quid... Was a Tory donor building this pile?

I'm struggling, as well, to see £6m worth of value in it.
It is quite simple - it was never meant to cost £6m, and it was £6.25 average a ticket with an expected 200k people. That's £1.25m turnover and over a million+ in additional footfall intangible benefits.

For comparison, the Angel of the North cost £800k and delivers £0 in revenue.

I'm sure people can do plenty of things these days and not be criticised for it.

Spending £6M on a mound of earth in the middle of London just happens to not be one of those things.

The snack van in the car park does a roaring trade!

those are the same pics and video that wason the dailymail site a few weeks ago and it was reported then that it has been closed for a short period, they said it had been opened a bit early and that the vegetation needed to grow a bit.

I have seen it in the last cuuople of days and it looks a lot better now and i will go up there soon.

such negativity in this thread, canot anyone one do something without being critisised these days?

Enjoy your walk :p

Why would you go up there? It literally has no vista?

Go to Parliament Hill instead...

What I would like to know is why something like that costs £3.3m and why councils think it's a good allocation of funding when most places are such eye sores with understaffed services, I'm pretty sure you could get a team of school children together to construct something like that given a few months. If that's an exaggeration there are probably countless professional Asian companies that will do it for a fraction of the cost.
