March Budget 2016

It's very good for the middle classes and the well off.

It's a 4k limit. I wouldnt say the well off so much as low-middle to middle class
I can maximise it and it actually makes an isa worth it

So really this is pretty good one for me.. Once it kicks in I will gain 1000 free pounds per year

I mean a tax on fat people, not a tax on fatty foods.

I know you are trying to be funny but i actually generally surprised and happy that someone is doing something about it and the money is supposedly being spent on children too.
I doubt its enough but its a good start and possible indicator of taxation aimed at unhealthier, unnecessaryly fat/sugar laden products, not just booze and fags.

Decent enough response from Corbyn.

I thought it was a very good response.

The budget focused on tax cuts whilst neglecting absolutely everything else, NHS, LA Funding, public services and terrible productivity rates in the UK. A lifetime ISA scheme which will only serve to push up house prices even further due to government bonuses is just laughable. Who are the people who can put £20k a year into an ISA? I ask everyone that.

The only real significant things:

-raising personal allowance,
-raising higher rate threshold
-reducing business rates
-preventing tax avoidance
-introducing lifetime ISAs

can't gloss over the massive austerity going on and it's impact on public services and the impact on people with low incomes.

This is an amazing budget for me who can afford to pump money into a lifetime isa, partly because of the tax giveaways.

Corbyn was spot on in pointing out who really benefits from this budget.

Hundreds, thousands, millions of people manage to consume sugar in moderation without getting fat so why should it be more expensive for them because some can't?

People also get fat from crisps. Should we have a potato tax?

Because sugar is nutritionally pointless, it provides nothing but energy, which is needed of course, but is available from every other foodstuff which bring other nutrition with it.

Also, there is no way you can defend the quantities of sugar that are unnecessarily put into soft drinks, which bring many other health problems other than just obesity.

Also, we have been asking the food industry to tackle this issue themselves, they haven't, so the state steps in. Very fairly imo, giving them 2 years to redesign their products

Agreed, I'd be happier if it went further. It's a good investment for our breaking NHS too

Any decent calculators about to show the changes to the 40% tax band and personal allowance in terms of take home pay? Had a look around but they don't seem to be updated.

Far as I can see (especially from a selfish point of viewers) it's really good

I have no kids
I earn an ok amount (nothing spectacular)
I can maximise the isa
The tax free allowance
I don't really need anything but core public services
Sugary drinks I don't like
Fuel is frozen

The only bit of bad I can see is the insurance tax. Which is invisible anyway

Personally. Very good. I can see how poorer seem a bit.. Shafted

Hardly, its capped at just £4k....

Who do you think can afford to save anything like £4k a year right now and is under 40?

People on low to middle incomes having to rent? You are a world away from reality if you believe they can.

Yep, years of austerity to give massive tax giveaways to relatively well off people.

Imagine if both things were timed in the same budget!

I don't feel it's difficult for middle income (less kids) to save 4k a years
