Somebody had to start it - so here's a voting thread for March entries.

Voting closed. Here are the results...

Rather than an anonymous poll, PLEASE POST YOUR VOTE (the name of your chosen winner) IN BOLD IN THIS THREAD at the top of your post

You are also encouraged to comment on any other entered images in your post but ensure your vote is clearly marked.

This thread is for this purpose only so avoid other discussion please.

Below are all the entries - I have randomised the order in excel
where someone has posted a title or description specifically about the image I have also included them.
I count 34 entries! Let me know if I've missed anything ASAP!

I would suggest we give it a week for voting and then count up the totals, and allow anyone to vote even if they have not entered.

Votes must be entered by 11:59pm on Monday 7th April

Welcome to Wales!

Welcome to Wales by Shaggy James, on Flickr

Choo choo.

This is the most important and powerful photo I have ever taken. 9 months in the making and 36hrs of blood, sweat and tears from mum. This shot all comes down to the timing, about 5 minutes after birth there was this brief moment of harmony; the eyes opened and the first of many smiles flashed across her face. My eyes welled, my heart melted and I luckily got this photo.
Olympus EPM-2, 14-42 kit lens, kit flash, aperture priority wide open and auto ISO. Processed In PS express on the iPad.

Under the Forth Road Bridge - Under the Stars:

I've been trying to get a shot the last few weeks, but I've either been out in the wrong time of the day (as below) or it's been windy (I wanted a shot at the docks with reflections but the water was choppy!).

My vote goes to olv

Really difficult to choose one entry from many good ones but this had the most immediate impact on me - I'll update later with my own comments on all the entries

Voting for Genoma. Just a really fun characterful shot.

Honourable mention to mrk - really liked the tones and textures but just felt the scene was lacking a real focal point.

I echo your thoughts on mrk's shot, I really like the feel of it.

But my vote goes to King4aDay, it was a close call with buzzleightweight's shot too but I'm a sucker for minimalist seascapes.

And thanks Zogger :)

Andy90...

Shows great depth showing the rock formation in foreground and half way through.. The Horizon is on upper third line..

My guessing this was Tenerife or one of the Canary Islands on a warm day, going by the lava rock. Just everything seems right about it and it appealed to me from the first moment I saw it.

Second mention to Olv.. simple shot but there's nothing in that photo to say it wasn't taken in the 70's . Superb.

All very inspirational.

Zogger

It was close with MRK But I like the minimalism and its probably the only one I'd have on my wall.

I was really looking forward to taking part in this B&W competition but march seems to have flown by and I missed the boat. I've just got my Lee Big stopper too.

Good luck to all that did though

Was very very tough, but my vote goes to mrk

I do really love that shot. The processing really enhances the feel of the old carraige. Very nice and understated.

I also loved zoggers rose, for the play on the perspective and soft processing, and the_abyss had a really nice shot, but I kept wishing I could see a bit more where that cloud/fog is.

There were a lot more I liked a lot, but I'll keep it to those top three for me.

buzzlightweight for me - I love the subject, feel and contrast. That said there are a number of quality shot and absolutely love the range of subjects, compositions and processing styles

Lets hope the April theme gets as good a response :)

My vote goes to snips86x I guess I a thing for mist. haha.

A mention to mrk - a very different shot from the other entries. Reminds me of my interrail trip over a decade ago.

Liked many of the other entries but these ones caught my eye the most.

My vote goes to snips86x as I like the depth to the shot and the tones.

Mrk would have got my vote if it had a more central composition.

My vote is for mrk.
Some really great shots here, but it stands out for me because of the unusual subject.
Also like the one from sonea fifer.
Genoma and mp4 are interesting but I found them both slightly unnerving for some reason!

snips86x

Not sure if I can vote without having entered but... My vote goes to snips86x, I downloaded this image a put if fullscreen to get the best effect, and think it would make a fantastic large scale print, there isn't any deliberation with me, this is my stand out favourite.

I have mentioned elsewhere on these forums that I am a fan of two-tone B&W monochrome art, but I feel many entries are forcing the issue with extreme settings or post processing.

Sometimes the subject matter can make all the difference and I think it's a shame that the cloud was so prominent in the entry from The_Abyss.

I hoped to get in an entry for this challenge, but regardless just seeing the entries I feel has taught me a good deal.

Olv gets my vote with a perfect step back in time.

A mention for snips86x with that misty scene.

My vote is for Mrk. Very nice image.

Admiral Huddy - thanks for the vote :) I suspect you will be surprised to learn that it was taken just north of Aberfraw on the Island of Anglesey - very perceptive though, the rocks are volcanic in that area, laid down many millennia ago when Anglesey was roughly where New Zealand is now :)
