Marked on Enta for using 20mb during peak time!!!

Hmm UKFSN wasnt actually showing me my adsl login for the router. Sorted it now:

You have been marked as a high bandwidth user on 3 day(s). If this number is 5 or more you will be affected by the high bandwidth user ALT settings.

Seems a little harsh, can't have done more than 4 gig on each of the days and it was only between 8pm - 8am.

I really need a new ISP :(.

Where are you working out the 8.10am from? The status page I'm looking at only shows the date for which you're marked as a high user. The only time I see is the date and time that the page was refreshed.
:oDoh you are right was looking at the time i logged in this morn:o
but still the rest is correct pc was off all day yesterday and still was flagged actually it is off all day everyday ATM on this package i am on,only surfing in the evening (ok sometimes there are updates but not yesterday) and i still get flagged:confused:

Seems like you can be flagged as a high user even while staying well under your bandwidth limit. Utter pants. Wish there was some form of LLU on my exchange :(.

Same here,am out in the countryside and chances of us getting LLU in our exchange are practically zero :(

What is ALT?

Taken from a quick google of it --

Will Entanet continue to use the
Anti-Loss Tool (ALT)?
Yes. The Anti-Loss Tool (known as “the ALT”) used to protect our 20CN Centrals from becoming overloaded is also being applied at each of our 20 aggregation nodes. The ALT restricts each user’s download speed in increments when the Aggregation Point (AP) they are using becomes busy. As the burden on the AP reduces, their download speed is then increased in different increments. A detailed explanation of how the ALT works can be found on the Entanet Partner site.

As above, it's a good thing for gamers as it generally doesn't affect pings, whilst maintaining reasonable pings during peak hours.

What is ALT?

Its a tool enta use to increase their profitability
Instead of buying more capacity to deal with more new customers what they
do is when nearly all available bandwidth is being used they throttle all users
until the bandwidth utilisation is below 95%

So a user who might sync at say for example 8Meg and can download at 850KB or higher when things are quiet
Would end up with being able to download at 50-70KB , and trying to download any file and surf http is a no go ( its either web surf OR download not both )

It's more like Enta joining the real world - they couldn't keep adding capacity like they were or they'd have gone bust (without adding a few zeros to what they charged).

I would say that BT uping their prices would have more to do with this rather than "Enta joining the real world"

hhmmm probably won't affect me much, I can only download @ 170Kbs anyway and do all my downloading at 3am.

I'll see how it goes, thus far my speed hasn't been altered. I'm not going to make a knee jerk reaction, if my services goes down the pan in a couple of months I'll look at moving.

If I haven't have read this thread I wouldn't have even known about this ALT thingy, ignorance is bliss :p

CliffG let us now how eclipse goes!!!

Sky has LLU in my area, might look at that if the poo hits the fan with adsl24 in the future.

If the node you are on is badly overloaded you will notice it for sure

All day today I cant get more than about 120K - 130K on average

For the first week after the change over all I could get was about 50KB

Enta's business model wasn't realistic even on IPStream CBC; people were pointing that out when Enta were lighting Centrals left, right and centre.
The increase in Central prices (although there's a drop in the port cost, but it's pennies by comparison) only made the effect worse.
