Marked some one elses door with my door :/ questions inside

disagree completely, in the absence of any real eveidence he's caused significant damage i.e a panel has been clearly pressed inwards this just seems like a standard door bounce, happens everyday in part due to small uk parking space sizes, saxo minimum age around 10 years value a grand absolute max and this guy reckons a minor mark is gonna effect the value, give me a break, its like in france cars colliding on roundabouts etc and when parrell parking is expected nobody kicks off and demands insurance details.
What have driving standards in France got to do with anything?

So in future if my car with a large front bumper rubs against the corner of another persons and removes a bit of paint i'm now expected to give over my insurance details, or if it happens to my car i should demand them from the other person, lol, no wonder i pay more than the car is worth to insure it.

Yes, of course you are!

lol, i allways take care when opening doors when in busy car parks but i can understand why some dont and that others make mistakes, especially if they have kids or whatever, yeah if the panel was clearly bent on an expensive motor the logical conclusion would be that this would adversly affect the value and a claim from the other party should be made but a tiny ding on an inexpensive car is just a waste of everyones time even moaning about, cant beleive you guys are encouragin gthis guy to part with money to chipsaway etc.

What an absolute terrible attitude you have. If you have marked or dented someone's car it is the honourable thing to at least get it repaired. The value of the car in question is irrlevant you have damaged that persons property.

Speaking as someone whos car is only worth £1500 why should i drive around in something that is dented because some fool opened the door on me? Should i just expect that my car is rubbish so why bother? Hell no that guy has marked my car so hes paying for a repair.

Reminds me of the reaction of somebody who hit an old trailer I was pulling a while back, his attitude was because it was old & rusty why bother making a claim ?

The fact he'd damaged it and it was his fault / duty to get it put right seemed beyond him.

Yes, its a Saxo FFS but its his Saxo and he has the right to expect it not to be damaged and him be out of pocket.

Don't you think~?

we havn't seen any evidence as to damage, i've nudged paint work and made marks on my old e36 that didn't have remote central locking with the key, seems like a very similar mark would be made if a persons door nudged it, no i wouldn't even entertains someones notion that its anything i should pay out on and playing the claim game its stupid as for one thing all the hastle involved wont improve the value of the car anyway.

It's got nothing to do with improving the value, it's about not having a damaged car caused by someone else.
If I walk past your house and scratch the whole side of your car, would you expect me to pay for it to be repaired?

Absolutely, I'm horrified to see how selfish/ignorant/immature some others (thankfully the minority) on here are!

yes the key word is DENTED panel pushed in majorly, i'm talikng about a minor mark caused by a door which is what this sounds like so its all a nonsense really. if someone revered into my car with there towbar and caused a major indentation you can bet i'd be livid and maybe call the police if they attempted to drive away but thats not whats happened here.

If you go insurance you give him your name and address and your insurer then ring your insurers and tell them.

What's the damage done? Dent, scratch? broken the paint?

No you should have some respect for the system and appreciate that a 'mark' as you put it does not necessitate staining someones insuarnce reccord and causing the outlay of hundreds of pounds to add nothing of value, if anything you are causing yourself problems to as you need to leiase with multiple parties and await the minor repair (if its even deemed necessary).

id tell him your sister will pay for a mobile dent remover to fix it, make sure the dent company only fix the damage your car did and that you pay them direct. and id tell him to do one for your insurance details, especially if the cars already a turd and full of dents. he see's £££'s to go towards getting more than just that dent fixed, its what people do, welcome to driving in britain :)

lol...

'Whoops, sorry mate! Just put a dent in the side of your door. Now, I realise it may be your pride and joy, but Autotrader listings show they don't sell for much, so put up, shut up, and don't bother hassling me for repair costs. Laters!'

Who says i would use insurance. If its a visible mark i would not bother with insurance (2bh even a dent i wouldnt) i would just get the persons contact detials. If i could t-cut it out myself i wouldn't ring. If its so bad it wont t-cut out id pass the chargers on to person who marked my car.

That simple really

Why are you so fixated on this notion of adding value to the car by repairing it? It has nothing to do with adding value, you are simply paying to return whatever you damaged to it's pre-accident state.

Where is the problem in just paying to put right what you did?

Its not a mission, the car gets fixed you pay the bill, im not seeing how that is a problem.

So by that token then i would fully expect you to inform the council if you damage a kurb or draincover with your unit/s or the industrial estate owner or whoever:D

Happened to me in a car park, woman opened the door on her 7 seater straight into the side of my 306, i got a look of disgust as if to say i shouldn't be there in the first place as she started to swan off without a second thought. my car has seen better days and id in no way expect repairs if it was a genuine accident but the offer of repair and a sorry would be ample enough to waver the incident, as it is for her attitude i made a big deal about it.
regardless of how old or damaged something all ready is if you damage it its your responsibility to fix it, just because you don't value the item very much doesn't mean you can justify damaging it without reimbursement.

@op
as others have said try to settle it without the insurance company's involvement, i cant see any reason why he would be against this, its not as if there's a whiplash claim in it for him if you want to be a hard ass get your sister to chip in, if not take the hit yourself.
