Marlboro

Have they seriously only just noticed? :D

Seems that way.

Philip Morris said: “We are confident that our relationship with Ferrari does not violate the UK 2002 Tobacco Advertising and Promotion Act. The Formula One Grand Prix in the UK does not involve any race cars, team apparel, equipment or track signage carrying tobacco product branding. The same is true for all other Formula One races across the world.”

Well, there is the team name...

Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro

Those "barcodes" are recognized by TV's in countries where tobacco advertising is legal and shows up as Ferrari or so some guy I met whilst travelling said.

No doubt a load of **** but interesting all the same if it is true!!

If someone had said that to me I'd have punched them in the face for thinking I'm the most gullible person on the planet. :p

I never understood the point of banning fag adds on cars. I mean until I started smoking i never even knew half the sponsors were tobacco companies appart from Marlboro obviously. I never looked at a F1 car and thought lets go buy some cigerettes. It was always films like die hard that did things like that!

Also one thing i missed the most was that tobacco companies knew how to a make a gorgeous livery.

Banning tobacco advertising actually boosted their revenue, as all companies are banned equally, no more advertising budget just to keep up with the competition. The only industry the ban actually hurt is sports, ironically.

But the idea of banning the advertisements wasn't to restrict how much money the companies have in their bank account..

I know, It's more to do with stopping people smoking. Which will only serve to increase tax for non-smokers. I'm not sold on smokers costing the NHS money, Lung cancer isn't cheap to treat, but nether are old people, who smokers are less likely to become, I bet it's near enough balanced out when you count fag tax.

Also testes are more harmful than cigarettes.

I fail to see how advertising cigarettes causes people to smoke, all it does it get the brand name known ... it does not in any way make people decide to smoke

its so subliminal you dont even know why and how! you just wake up in the morning and wonder whos marlboro ciggy ends are in your ashtray! its crazy! i just realised this cough ive had for the last few years only apeared when europe banned ciggy adverts in f1
it must be a smokers cough! ,no wonder my clothes always stunk of tobaco smoke!

This whole debate will certainly bring more attention to the Marlboro brand than the barcode ever would.

And personally I never saw the barcode as anything but that until I saw told it was 'really' a Marlboro advert.

Quite how 'Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro' doesn't constitute advertising is beyond me though.

The whole ban on tobacco advertising in every little area is cobblers tbh.

Banned TV ad's
Banned Radio ad's
Banned Magazine/newspaper ad's
Banned Sports sponsorship in all forms
Added "if you smoke this you will die" (or words to that effect!) on the packets
Added pictures of peoples mashed up organs and teeth to the packs.

and still people smoke!! So honestly do they believe a barcode on Ferraris car is getting 1 more person to buy Marlboro fags?
