Marlboro

Things is though, advertising does not make people go out and so something.
Advertising simply makes them aware of the company and product. With tobacco people are aware of the product anyway, so the only thing they won't know is the company.

"Leading doctors are demanding an immediate government inquiry into “subliminal” tobacco advertising on Ferrari’s Formula One cars, and the company’s $1 billion relationship with the maker of Marlboro cigarettes, The Times has learnt."
They should also check out the Ducati Marlboro Team.

They should also check out the Ducati Marlboro Team.

I noticed that today too.

After seeing it on TV I could see the symilarities...

From a distance, the dodgy logo looks like the outline of the marlboro fag packet, you can see the coloured top, the white bottom half and a black area near the bottom where the text is...

Looking on the internet, there seems to be quite a few different versions of the barcode, some don't resemble marlboro at all! I was watching moto gp today and you could see the Ducati barcode logo had another edit which made the top half show the triangle shape of the marlbro logo..

I struggled to find a picture that showed it off properly, if you look for it on TV where the camera catches the logo from a distance you can see it is very obvious

nice one leading doctors. now everyone who reads/sees the news will think of marlboro when they see that barcode even if they didnt do beforehand

But it doesn't even follow the triangle contour and I'm not even sure what you are trying to point out with those yellow lines.

It's been like that for about 10 years, and they've just noticed? Dear me.

I liked Jordan's attempts to get around the advertising ban back in 99 (I think it was..) where for a few races they had the sponsors as "Bitten and Hisses" instead of Benson and Hedges, with pictures of a bumble bee on the car. Quite clever, nice looking car too!

Bitten and Hisses had a snake and Buzzin Hornets had a Hornet.

Plausible deniability isn't it.

Seriously who here thinks Ferrari and Ducati, two of the biggest and most commercialised teams in their respective sports, would "waste" huge spaces of advertising space on a pointless red/white/black barcode? Space that is worth millions? The only answer is that they're not wasting it. But that somebody (i.e. Marlboro) is actually paying them to fill it with a rather strange barcode that happens to use the same colours as a packet of Marlboro's?

Also has the same colour as many other things. Why would Marlboro pay for something that is so subliminal no one has picked up on it.
Many cars have empty spaces on them.

Now Until they show the sponsor link I will with hold judgement as it is so subliminal it seems totally pointless.

Its obvious to those that have seen the cars with the Marlboro logos on them before, but if you haven't I don't think you would get it?

Also they happen to have the same pointless barcode and the same title sponsor ?
