Marriage Costs

Can anyone tell me how much it costs roughly to get married in a church?

Thanks

Phil

I seem to remember someone telling me that technically it costs nothing, but you make a donation to the church. How much that is I have no idea about.

yeah thats what we've got to do. Will be a few hundred. Need to find out the legal costs though

I think it is free to get married in your parish church otherwise you have to pay, the fee will vary with the church but is around £1-200. Apparently the average overall cost of a wedding is something like £26k, which works out at about £1 per second

Our church wedding cost about £200 and then £100 for the choir (though only about 6 turned up, so that was a bit of a waste)

I think we gave the church £500 about 7 years ago.
Most of the wedding cost is down to the reception, I personally don't really like a typical British Wedding reception with hired halls and rubbish discos and sit down meals with little or no choice of foods.
We had a large marquee in the back of a large pub alongside the canal and a garden party sit where you like affair with a huge buffet of hot and cold foods. Sit where you want, eat what you want with whom you want. It was loads cheaper but more intimate as a result.

The other killer is wedding stationary, what a con. We printed our own on handmade paper some friends from India had made us. Again far cheaper and more personal to us.

I think the key thing for us was not about following a set wedding tradition as such but having a relaxed day, no seating plans etc to worry about.

I think that includes the honeymoon and an expensive reception, £800 of wedding stationary, £500 of flowers, £2500 dress, £1000 champagne and so on.
We went to Cornwall for our honeymoon because we like it lol.
