Mass Effect 2 Review

Ive been playing through the game since launch when ive had the chance, 25 hours in and ready to launch my suicide mission. Just need to do a few more missions and do some mining for upgrades.

Really hate the mining mind, it is as pointless and as dull as the mako missions in the first game. They didn't make it better imo, they just changed the approach. Instead of wandering around a planet looking for stuff in the Mako, you're wandering around a planet holding the shoulder button til your scanner goes crazy. I wish the scanner was a hell of allot faster. I upgraded it once near the start of the game but are there any other upgrades to make it more efficient?

Other than that its been an excellent game so far and the time seems to have flown by.

well you can spam the shoulder button while you check on the radar for a spike:D.
Heck a lot quicker than keeping it down and go up n down.

Doesn't change the fact it is boring though.

Just completed ME2, was a brilliant game, enjoyed the last mission and will definately be playing through again as I lost 2 team members! :(

On my second playthrough now and I'm just wondering do I have to have all my crew members loyal to be able to save them all?

I'm pretty sure you do need them loyal otherwise they have a high chance of dying (or a 100% chance I'm not too sure), I just make sure I have done absolutley everything there is to do before going for the IFF. That way I can just go straight through the relay with everything done.

It was only Jack that wasn't loyal for me and everyone survived. I never picked her for any of the tasks either. :)

Thansk and thanks for deleting me from your friends list on live :p

Unless you've got a very high Paragon/Renegade score you will be forced to choose between keeping Jack or Miranda loyal before the suicide mission.

Couple of questions

I had Jack die in the end, I had completed her loyalty mission but she still isn't loyal, I'm guessing this is why she died at the end.

Also Thane died at the end, I'm not sure why as he was loyal, he died in a cutscene upon entering the ship you encounter at the start, I forgot to upgrade the cannons and I think this was an upgrade Thane gave me, could this be why?

Also I chose to continue at the end but now I want to start again, do I just start a new game? Will this give me the rewards still, like keeping my level etc?

Same here. Lost her loyality when I chose to agree with Miranda. The option was there to regain Jacks loyality though, but I couldn't select it even though I had maxed out my paragon meter.

all my team were loyal and tali still took a bullet to the head when we were shutting a door..very annoying !

used legion on the 1st playthrough and he survived that bit so going to revert back to the start of the mission and make some different choices for the teams

I managed to keep all of my team loyal and yet Garris was killed by the swarm, whilst Mordin, Jack and Samara bit the big one in the collector escape cutscene :( On the other hand Tali survived even though I chose her as mission specialist for the vent.
I wasn't bothered about Jack or Mordin too much, but actually felt a bit torn when I saw Garrus die.

I'm beginning to think it's totally random from all of the accounts here...

It's not. Who lives and who dies depends on 2 things - who you pick to do each part of the final mission, and whether they are loyal or not. Each choice you are allowed to make in the final mission has a couple of people who are perfect for the role. If you make the perfect choices every time, and they are loyal, your whole team should survive every single time. Pick the wrong people, or someone who isn't loyal, and someone will die as a result. I could post the list of who is best for each role but I think that would be too big a spoiler for people.

Completed this a couple of days ago, fantastic game. God I hated the planet scanning as per stated above and quoted multiple times. All team mates survived the encounter. Legion went on the break in whilst Garrus led the first squad. Miranda led the second squad and Grunt led the survivors back to the Normandy. Samara was the biotic powering the shields whilst Tali and Jacob came with me for the final showdown.

EDIT: They all need to be loyal or there will be deaths.

Nothing personal, I've just reduced it from 36 down to 9 since it's going silver in less then a month. I got sick of people I don't play with signing in for the 50th time in an hour so I removed everyone and reduced it to the bare minimum.

Just to add everyone has marks out of 10 for each role, so if your people are dying on the last part where they hold the line it's because they are not suited for that role so usually Mordin is the first to go followed by any other character who isn't a combat type, where as Grunt and Jacob are your tank characters who are perfect for holding the line so they would have a high score for that part. All loyalty does is slightly increase that score so they have a better chance of surviving those sections, the exception to the score is if Mordin doesn't have his Omni-tool upgrade, which means he will die everytime regardless.

For them to survive the last part just make sure to leave behind some combat specialists such as Garrus, Grunt, Zaeed etc and of course make sure they are loyal because it slightly increases everyones score.

Aww me too, boohoo. Girl.

They don't, if you choose correctly you can have non-loyal members survive, as long as they're not chosen to lead any section of the final mission.

Ahh ok, I had seen posted elsewhere that if they were not loyal then there was a good chance they would be killed.
