Mass effect worth a dabble?

I don't think it can be compared to KOTOR / NWN2 / etc. as it is more of an action based RPG rather than strategic (such as the above titles).

I thought it was an excellent game with a very good storyline. The update that should be released later this year as well should make it have even longer lastability. I definately prefer it to KOTOR / etc. due to the action based side of things. The graphics were very good as was the atmospheric sounds / music.

Definately worth a go IMHO.

I could never complain about the graphics, the character models were amazing, the look of emotions on their face was really beleivable, the different types of planets kept the game fresh as well, one minute your on a desert planet then one covered in snow, you shouldnt give up on it too easily.

It had good replay value on the 360 as half the achievments had to be done on replays and they unlocked special things in the game like immunity to certain weapons and such.

Just because I have an opinion on a game does not make it trolling. I thought it dull and found the controls were badly implemented. Graphics for close up objects, such as grass and ground were very poor indeed.

A strange comment to make considering the graphics are widely praised, to suggest they are terrible, is plain trolling. The controls on the pc version were excellent, a big improvement over the console version, as was the graphics.

Its a pretty decent game, great graphics, interesting storyline but I have to say I felt a bit bored half way through it after doing some of the side missions. The planets are pretty empty, the complexes you have to go into in the side story use about 3 layouts and I didnt find the missions to be that interesting to be honest. I havent completed it yet but cant help thinking I will be better off skipping the side quests and just replaying the main story a few times.

Decent game but not what I was expecting from Bioware. The interface is a bit clunky and aside from the main storyline the majority of sidemissions are extremely repetitive.

Sounds like general consensus is its a pretty good game with only a couple of drawbacks, a lot more than can be said for most games so i guess its gotta be worth a shot, i dont buy many games but i play the ones i do buy to death. Seems all the decent games are coming up short on game span, cod4 for example though if the game itself is good enough it can easily be forgiven!

The storyline is good, but far too short and the sidequests feel like an afterthought. That said i didn't regret buying it but i was disappointed because i expected more from a bioware RPG.
THis echos my sentiments.

It's a decent enough game and it reeks of Bioware (which isn't a bad thing), as said if you like KOTOR then you'll pick up the pace of Mass Effect very quickly.

Sadly, the side quests are utterly without merit and consist of just repeating the same task over and over (land on planet, find identikit structure, kill everything inside and/or press buttons, repeat ad infinitum). It didn't help that the planets you land on are completely barren besides 3 or 4 points of interest which you can see on your map anyway. There seems to be very little thought put into the game outside of the main story arc.

Unlike KOTOR there doesn't seem to be much significance in your relationship with your crew. There are some pivotal decisions but by and large your crew will follow you even if you just outright abuse them constantly.

The game seems to suffer from being a console game originally - console gamers have to be spoonfed.

....the game does feature alien lesbian sex though, so disregard all the negative comments above.

Sold ill buy it just for that haha, i need soomething to play and nothing else has really sparked an intrest from me so this is the choice, would you say plenty of scope for an expansion or a complete no no because its origins are on a console?

Managed to pick it up for a tenner in a well known high street games retailer, but still havent had time to really get into it, so many games not enough time

I think the only poor graphics in it were the planetary texturing and lack of variety.

That's because they're your crew. They have to.:p They may follow you, but they do treat you slightly differently.
Joking apart, there's a fair bit of of mileage just in conversations with your crew. Some have more depth than others, and 3 in particular for obvious reasons. ;) Plus Joker is always good for some scripted comedy.

To OP/anyone starting it, make sure you go round and talk to your crew after every story planet. Taking the elevator in the Normandy is also good chance to go and do something quick. Like install XP, or the weekly shop.

My complaint would be that you can just buy the best weapons in the game. Removes some of the fun of loot after that.

One of the best games on the 360 imo. Top storyline (read the novel) and top notch final credits music.

Played it on the pc, its one of the better games out there atm and it actually has a story line to follow. At times it may seem like its dragging on but bear with it and you will find it more enjoyable the deeper you go into it.
There are multiple scenarios depending on decisions you make but apparently there is only one decision that really matters and that is at the end of the game determining what ending you will actually get.
