Massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake In Turkey

Dear god, those poor souls, how terrible. When mother nature strikes.... :(

I feel glad to live no where near the edge of the tectonic plate, one goes straight through Turkey.

Mother Nature is a murderous (expletive for female dog)

It's a tragedy.
Now and then we get reminders that this planet can be our worst enemy at times. But they are only reminders, the planet is capable of unleashing all hell on earth, we have just been lucky that nothing major has happened in the past seventy thousand years or so. The day it does, most of us will not survive.
Can you imagine a disaster on a scale of this, but in every city in every country of the world? It's terrifying.

We are very lucky. But not forever.
The African plate will eventually collide and push France in to a collision with us. We will get smeared out towards the North East until there is pretty much nothing left. At some point in all that we will get plenty of earthquakes.

That Juan De Fuca plate is one worth reading about if youre interested in this sort of stuff.

Plz don't talk about something you have less than zero knowledge about lol

Please god no, I don't want La Baguette colliding with us. Can you imagine the uproar.

The African Plate's speed is estimated at around 2.15 cm (0.85 in) per year. It has been moving over the past 100 million years or so in a general northeast direction.

Yeah, it's in no hurry, I very much doubt we'll be here to witness such events.

I'm yet to read the whole things but I think this is an interesting snippet/factoid for people

The 1989 earthquake in Loma Prieta, California, which killed sixty-three people and caused six billion dollars’ worth of damage, lasted about fifteen seconds and had a magnitude of 6.9. A thirty-second earthquake generally has a magnitude in the mid-sevens. A minute-long quake is in the high sevens, a two-minute quake has entered the eights, and a three-minute quake is in the high eights. By four minutes, an earthquake has hit magnitude 9.0.

Assad, what an absolute ****

Sky:
'The Syrian government bombed an opposition-held area of the country in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, according to the UK government.

President Bashar al-Assad launched a "truly callous and heinous attack" on Marea, a town in northwestern Syria affected by the earthquake, said MP Alicia Kearns, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee.'

Theres going to be thousands upon thousands of people buried under the rubble who are not going to be rescued. They will drown/suffocate to death simply due to no one being there to be able to rescue them its ******* heart breaking.

There are areas right now where NO rescue teams no government lead teams have arrived at all even now. Just a few people trying to do something, screams from under the rubble, the civilians just do not have the ability to help them.

The causalities are going to be way worse than anyone can imagine, people just buried alive.

I think it's best not to think too much about it, as it's just overwhelming.

It really is :(. Even the help that can be sent can't get to certain cities as the roads are literally sheered apart, runaways sheered in half.
So many people are going to needlessly die.

Your right I just can't go about my day pretending these poor people are not in need of urgent help and hoping they get it.

I know it's difficult. Here I am sitting in a nice warm house drinking a cup of coffee and wandering what to have for dinner, and that horrible tragedy is going on. But, I can do nothing to help, just hope they can save as many people as possible.
