** MASSIVE NVIDIA PRICE DROP!!! **

That changes things then.

Quick question, it's ok to mix brands as long as they have the same amount of memory right?

That should be fine as long as the vram matches your current 780 believe. I mixed brands, but they were both ref cards. Might be worth waiting for someone else to confirm.

You didn't like the Samsung 4K monitor?

i only know about the tvs and 4K LED isn't as good as the old Plasmas in regards to colour/ Contrast/ it also suffers from backlight uniformity and backlight bleeding............it's the same flawed technology that it always has been, but in 4k instead.

the Sammy 4k curved screen looks great yes, but it's bound to be at 4K, but the LEDs faults show most of all at night; on a near pitch black screen, or if you start to detect lack of detail in the blacks

Well I can tell you now that the Samsung U28D590 has no backlight bleed and is a very very good panel and colours are awesome. I have backlight bleed on my Asus ROG Swift but nothing to worry about.

ALXAndy you have been very vocal about just how bad the 970 and 980 are, which in its self is fair enough, but let me ask you this.

How often do you change your GPU's ?
How often do you change your monitor ?

Yes I have ordered a 970 but coming from a 670 I feel this is a good improvement. I am quite surprised that having just looked I've only had the 670 since July last year but the 470 before that was August 2010.
But my1200p monitor I have no interest in changing until it goes wrong and I've had this one since August 2008.

My point is you say everyone should be looking toward 4K, I say it is not for everybody, most, who have made the switch have commented on windows scaling not being good enough yet, we know that GPU horse power is only just good enough with dual cards.
Bottom line when 4k is good enough I would agree with you but at the moment it isn't and by the time it is the 970/980 will be old cards and no longer relevant to the argument.

Also when you add in comment like this one it just makes you sound as if you trying to justify your previous purchase.

And that's why I bought Titans. Sure, at £690 each they weren't cheap but I get to shrug off this release completely. Maybe at the next one I'll feel some remorse for buying them but I doubt it. They will be no less useful even if the newer one is much faster.

I bought them with 4k in mind, which is what people should be doing now.

Thats because they are fighting Intel who has the world's more advanced process node tech and a company which is nearly 10X larger and spends more than GF and TSMC on process tech, and can massively outspend on R and D. Intel had costly failures like Itanium and yet they barely flinched.
AMD uses the most advanced commercial nodes outside Intel, yet look at things like Finfets?? Intel are at least two years ahead of the nearest competitor and already are moving to 14NM soon, while everyone is still barely moving to 20NM(yes,I know the nm descriptions are not exactly the same measurement in both cases, but people get the gist here).

Intel is now targeting the computer AIB card market with MIC.

Things are not going to get pretty for AMD and Nvidia there in the next 5 years IMHO.

Oh yeh! Well my DMR will beat your TRP with its FGB and all other STRFGVB's will become ZSA's.

Tasty prices right there, anyone thinking of an SLI upgrade should jump at the opportunity with those prices!

Nvidia really have gone into full gear recently, with the Shield tablet, 900 series launch and now these big price drops on 700 series - it's hard to see how AMD can compete whilst making healthy profits at this stage.

One thing that does spring to mind with these price drops is the 960, just where in the price stack and performance stack is it going to land.

With the 970 @ £260 upwards the 960 surely must come in under £200, I would say even under £180 and be faster than the 770 @ £180.

Well I'd say it is easy to work out.

970 beats 780 and is priced under 780's usual price of £299 at £259
960 I suspect will beat 770 and will be priced under 770's usual price of £229.

So I predict £199 would be perfect! Or £179 if they want to give them away. :D

Isn't £150 sort of the sweet spot for budget gamer cards? If you can afford/justify £200 you can probably stretch to £250 for a 970.

Personally I wouldn't buy a £200 960, given that it's likely to be a fair bit slower than a 970. I'd be more inclined to save more/sell some junk and find the extra to move up.

This is made more true because of all the 2nd hand 280Xs at roughly £110.

there's a lot more care and attention to the quality of build in a really good pc monitor than a tv , just take a really good look at a 55'' HD TV, because it's just cheap thin plastic. finally, your monitor has a far bigger spec than the average HD TV.

I would not be happy with that at all for such a premium monitor. Things like that will affect its second hand value if and when you come to sell it. Each to their own I guess!

To be honest, I have to really look to see the bleed as it is so faint. My Dell IPS was far worse and the Asus VG278H also. In comparison, this is more than acceptable and in black scenes in games, I have to look (but do find I am looking for it).

the Sharp LED TV has backlight bleed over 30% of the screen, (if you get a bad one that is)............ but you can not RMA the tv , because Backlight bleeding is considered Normal by Sharp, so take care !

Strokes his Pioneer Kuro 600m :p

I wouldn't except it on any TV or monitor, especially on the more premium models.
