Masssive Xbox leak reveals new consoles

72% of game sales in 2022 was digital on consoles (according to Forbes) so I think that’s probably already high enough for them to pull the trigger as it’ll be even higher than that when this launches. The rest will have to adapt even if they don’t like it. I do like to buy the odd game physical if I know it’s going to be a one play and sell kind of game and I do like to buy UHD’s though only rarely (I own 3!) so it’s not too big of a deal. Either way, we all knew it was going to happen at some point. It may not be better for some but it is better for the devs and and all those who take a slice of the pie. My ultimate dream is a digital marketplace where we can buy and sell game licences. Maybe too much to wish for.

Mainly coming off the back of the pandemic, physical media sales were down due to shops not allowed to open and deliveries taking longer.

Could be that though incrementally it’s been going up year on year anyway. It’ll be interesting to see the figures from this year now that we’re back to normality. I’m in the cba with a disc camp most of the time but my digital choices are more selective and I use sales a lot. I don’t buy MTX stuff at all but will buy DLC if the game was decent.

I am somewhat tempted by the SX refresh as it would be a great GP box but I just can’t see me needing all the extra content it would give me. A PS5 and a Switch is more than enough for me these days for the time I am able to put in.

Never used the drive in my X in 2.5 years. Ill buy a new one if it's smaller and just because it's new, shiny and under warranty because I don't spend a fraction of the money I used to spend on pc gaming.

If I had the space under my TV I would get a ps5 too but only got room for one console

One step forward, one step back?

Repairable controller with mention of right to repair.

Get rid of physical media with (limited) right to actually own something.

Funny I just boxed up my PS5, had the space, but hardly use the PS5 at the moment, Im just going to connect it up when the odd exclusive game that interests me comes along. I like owning both consoles, but I really hate seeing one console always end up getting little use and gathering dust, so better in the box for now.

I begin most dystopian fiction hasn't gone far enough, mostly because authors thought somethings were simply too outlandish!

An internal leak like this is great though. I don't think we've ever seen some of these though processes out in the open. The next gen part of the leak is far enough away that it shouldn't be set in stone. A hybrid x86 and ARM CPU - unless AMD are moving that way anyway - would probably require Microsoft to sponsor s lot of R&D. Still, they have the Azure goldmine to tap into, so have deep pockets.

Spencer did say the other day that whilst the leak was unfortunate it contains a ton of outdated information which has changed a lot since. Interesting to see it laid out like that though none of it is set in stone.

I like it and the controller looks cool too
The shiny plastic if it accurate is bad though, who likes smooth plastic on a controller you have to grip?! Plus it smells of people not using cloud gaming subsidizing it because of the inbuilt features.

To be fair what did you think he would say, yeah you have our plans down to a point? :-)

I swing between them. Haven’t used my PS5 much since God of War and Burning Shore. It’s pretty much my Sony exclusive machine. Gamepass keeps me pretty busy at the moment and has a great lineup. Like you I love owning both, and hate seeing one not being used. The PS5 will have its day again though, probably Spider-Man 2 or Cyberpunk DLC.

Totally. Although I don’t blame him for trying to ease some of the usual internet knee jerking. Businesses have long term plans; stuff changes. Our annual plans where I work are a finger in the air most of the time.
