Matched betting - who's done it and who's good at it? (No Referrals)

Eased myself back in today, probably made about £50. It's confirmed my desire to get back into MBing so I'll spend this week setting up the back office and moving cash around with the intention of starting properly at the weekend.

I signed up to PA and I have to say for an experienced MBer the oddschecker alone is a massive time saver. I do have a few concerns about the way they operate in regards to their target market though.

They seem to be pitching at the "Mumsnet", never done it, don't understand gambling, but like the idea of making a few quid crowd. Their information is easy to digest which is great for this crowd but I was a bit concerned that they didn't include info about:

1. Cashback sign ups through Quidco etc.
2. Browser isolation, for instance I use 3 browsers, 1 for bookies, 1 for exchange, and 1 for forums etc. Avoids bookers being able to see what sites I'm accessing from.
3. Potential issues such as abandoned tennis (different rules for exchanges and bookies can lead to loss) and ante post non-runners.

Overall a good service but glad I didn't use them when I was starting out.

But the point of matched betting is you can't lose. I bet and lay a result for say £1 loss and then earn a free £10 bet. With a profit return of 70-80% on the freebet.

In the above example there is no risk. I know exactly what the outcome is regardless of whether the bet or lay wins.

Unfortuately bookies do occasionally cancel bets. Bet365 canceled a £200 bet of mine without me knowing. Thankfully the lay won or I would have been about £800 down

On top of this they can make life extremely difficult through limiting.

I was sitting on £1000 worth of bonus money with a bookie who subsequently limited my betting to the £2-£3 mark, with, I believe, 2 weeks to meet a massive rollover requirement, in the end I had to forget about matching most of the bets in an effort to clear the rollover in time. I learned my lesson on that one, damn near ruined me.

You might find some will gub you before that occurs

It is a very strange and inefficient approach you seem to be taking... you're giving up a lot of value if you're seeking to always withdraw via betfair - especially if a lot of the bets you're placing at bookies are +ev

I am? I rarely win at the bookies as I've got the bank roll to do mostly bets over 5.0.

I've made £400 since restarting this a couple of weeks ago and atm I only have funds in BetWay.

Aiming to lose at the bookies also avoids any rollover requirements.

You might want to check my original post. I'm not saying bookies don't gub people or won't gub me, I was just questioning why they cared.

Their end balance sheet will still be £50+ in £0 out no matter how many bonuses or arbs I do.

I'm a bookie, you're a customer. You're regularly taking value odds at 5.0 or more but you haven't made any withdrawals, so you haven't cost me any money yet. I could just leave you to it until you end up winning £xxk and don't have the bankroll to get it back into the exchange or I could gub you now and avoid that risk.

Hello gubsville.

I hit those bonuses big and fast before they can pull something like that, If I have a £1k rollover to do I will get it done in 24hrs, big bets with short timeframes

TBH limiting like that while still within the bonus period is out of order

I can't remmber which bookie it was but it was one of the foreign companies. TBH I tend to go through them quite quickly as well, but my bank at the time meant that, after the first win or 2 at the bookies, it was going to take maybe another 3-4 bets to clear the rollover. They had me limited almost straight away, never experienced a gubbing like it.

The funny thing was, due to the odds on offer I wasn't even taking fantastic value. There just must have been some element of my betting that concerned them, either that or the fact that I was winning straight of the bat put them in a sulk!

By the end of it I'd thrown the matching out the window and was gambling on 2nd tier, Norwegian, female handball in a race against the clock! Luckily it only cost me about £60 in the end.

General question for those of you who use PA here.

Just signed up and working halfway through the beginners offers. Makes sense so far BUT after you have used up all the sign up offers is still possible to make decent money if you wish?

I have stuck to the guide and not skipped ahead so not looked at anything advanced yet but surely we only sign up once to each bookie? Or do they encourage multiple accounts and simply repeating the same main offers again and again?

Look at the bottom of the page and it shows reload offers. A lot of bookies will have these and give out free bets quite regularly to existing customers. I have loads left on the list to do but nearly all of them require doing rollovers now and I am a little put off doing them.

I see. I'm following the guidelines given so not had a look at anything past the offer i'm currently working on. Just curious more than anything.

I see some posts in this topic with big winnings but i'm guessing thats casino etc rather than putting thousands into the exchange as liability.

Talking of reloads...

Does anyone here do the "Football refunds" where you bet on 1st goalscorer and hope he scores within 25 mins or scores second etc?
Chances of them triggering hardly seem worth doing, especially having to go through the hassle of manually matching, which generally have poor matching odds.

Going to stick to:
Risk free bingo/casino offers (Betfair Blackjack is always a good one)
Skybet free bet club
888Sport more goals means free bets

...Try to master accumulators.
Done 2 so far... 1 busted and if Man City win tonight i'll get a £40 FB, so 50/50 strike rate.

TBH I intend doing just the signups (as do a couple of family members ;) ), easy £500 after that time to reward ratio doesn't seem worth it

Screw man city. I have a bet on Aguero to be top goalscorer, he's on the bench.

Between that and Chelsea not winning against the Swans I'm not impressed with this footyball stuff :(

5 goals now with a defender scoring the 5th  only like 10 games left on betfair offer, then Augero is spent. I want my free stuff! :D
