Mate's RS4 stolen......then recovered!

O/T but Fett. I think your dog looks amazing. They are great dogs and not to be underestimated.

I have a 'family friend' who is a police dog handler and when she pops round with her police German Shephard he is so big. I have a English Springer Spaniel who just runs up to the police dog and collapses on the floor wanting to play.

Yeah, I saw a pretty good demonstration video on youtube of a dog behaving / attacking differently when different weapons were used - very interesting stuff.

I've seen RAF police/guard dogs demonstrating their skills, they know how to react to different situations, and don't flinch when guns are firing (were blanks obviously) very cool stuff, I didnt envy the guy in the protective suit though, they said the dogs have broken a few arms when theyve clamped down and their body weight has put pressure on the arm when the person is trying to get the dog off.

I cant help thinking that at 20k, you aint getting much bite for buck.

I think id rather have a 10k security system a well trained normal dog and 9k.

Great looking dog though.

I'm not advocating everyone should have or needs anything like my him, so if a 10k security system + run of the mill yapper buys you your peace of mind, then I can't really argue against it.

I don't think many people realise the difference between a trained dog and a "normal" dog in a security situation. I'd wager 99% of people who read this, who have what they consider a good guard dog, will dismiss anything I say because I don't know their dog, their dog is harder then nails, more protective, smarter than average etc, all the usual **** you get when blokes get competitive about their dogs.

Most guard dogs, certainly in a domestic enviroment, are easy to deal with. Nobody will agree with this and nobody wants to think their rotty might just be a bit of a pansy when really pushed or easily coerceable, or dominated by another dog. I doubt, thankfully, that many people here have ever seen their dog in a situation where its or its owners life is at stake so most base their presumptions of theirs dogs abilities on the strength of its bark or the length of its hackles when a stranger knocks.

If the dog is the tool, I don't want that tool to be lacking when it comes to be properly used. I said earlier that anything that barks and makes a show of it is great and more than adequate for what people want in a dog. Just personally, I have different requirements, I wouldn't want to depend on something I was unsure about, in this case the dependence is quite important.

I don't think I could sound any more paranoid if I tried.

Thats not paranoid, thats just what makes you sleep well at night and that is priceless.

Me i went the 10k security and a normal rotty route, oh and a cat called George. Im under no illusions what a normal big dog can do, but he does bark like ****, and i think you have to draw the line somewhere.

Iv got to say if anyone wants to bypass what iv got here, well they best nick my cars and i best get my claim form in :)

Glad he got his car back and I can understand the missus being upset about it, better that they took the keys than came upstairs and used anyone as a bartering chip for the keys imo.

As far as dogs are concerned, that is one intent looking dog! Our jack Russell likes to bark but beyond that I wouldn't think of him as anything like a guard dog tbh.

Mate how do you use a gun when you sleep?

:D

2BL - you know in a Gun vs Knife situation at the sort of distances you are likely to find yourself in for personal protection, the knife almost always wins no matter how trained the person with the gun is, right?

Fett's dog is awesome!

One question about PPDs... Does the dog ever lose it's knowledge? As I can see the dog being the family pet for five years, and then when push-comes-to-shove the dog doesn't have a clue what to do - everything it learnt has since been watered down by being the family pooch and it's only as good as a regular German Shepherd.

You would have to make some pretty damn loud noises to get into the house, the front door has 8 locks built into it, which means having to prise it open, and all the windows are triple glazed. The back door leads onto a balcony so i would hear them on it.

In very close quarters i wouldnt even bother with the gun, i am trained to combat knives to a degree, it depends how many people there are, if theres just one, i think i would have a pretty high chance of defending myself.

What knife defense training did you have?

You are without question a fantasist or a very clever troll....though I call fantasist.

Yes, he's fully trained in the servicing of the Mk 15 and its acquisition system, and will be starting his C-RAM module at the end of the summer.

Ultimately, they can have what they want, I'm insured up the jacksie and the cars are not that special...the dog is not really for the sole purpose of protecting my stuff.

Yeah, he's a stud and knows it. He's constantly working so it's always fresh. They are a few things you should do now and again but no, once it's there, it's on tap for good.

I dont have a dog, but i do have a gun, so i sleep well at night.

You can't call a bullet back. Nor is anyone on the top of their game at 1am in bed (edit - yeah yeah). Guns don't have any level of threat assessment or the ability to warn you, guns have to be accessed and loaded. Great stopping power and cheap but I'd take a proactive dog any day.

I think I'll stop now, this is all starting to get a bit McNabby.

I'm also disappointed I haven't been called out on the flags, both on the dog and on the cars in the other thread. That was a waste of £3.
