Matrix 5

I had a look back at both the writing, producing & director credits for both Lilly & Lana and, since V for Vendetta in 2005, for the next 16 years neither had been involved any successful/profitable films since - Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas and Jupiter Rising - until the Matrix 4 was released.

So if I had to take a wild stab in the dark about why they've "suddenly" returned to the Matrix franchise after 2 decades, I would say its less about a heartfelt desire to tell more stories about the universe they created and instead, I would suggest it's far more likely to be about a financial need. Now I don't mean that they're both broke at all but those coffers which were filled by the OG Matrix trilogy probably need some serious refilling for them to continue enjoying a "Hollywood" lifestyle.

I'm not currently interested in Matrix 5 after watching Matrix 4 but even with that said, I really would like for it to just be "Good", thats all - just be "Good" as I like the characters and want to see them treated better.

They aren't back, Lana is "executive producing" which basically means nothing at all.

I'd give it a watch, especially so with someone else's spin on it. I've yet to watch 4 as i'll pick it up when it's a few quid, it's still 2 quid too expensive :D

I enjoyed 2 and 3, you just gotta take them for what they are, simplistic action films. Problem with some of the new hollywood films is the forced PC stuff, if that was dropped they'd see less negative responses and more okay for a casual watch reviews.

I agree it was *****, but the facts are that is was not "utterly panned"
It is the very definition of a mixed review movie (and for once the critics and audience score are identical)

That's fair, I totally get that it's technically "middling reviews" in that respect.

I'm just utterly flabbergasted that anyone would think there was actually something redeemable about it, and although anecdotal I've never heard anyone with a positive thing to say about it.

That's not putting shade on the actors mind you, there is some genuine talent in there but it's not put to use.

May have to rewatch the last one, can't remember much of it.

I seem to think it felt like a romance movie with a bit of sci-fi thrown in though.

Guess it didn't burn a lasting memory although it doesn't stand out as the worst dross I've seen.

There are less time consuming methods of self-harm.

Please don't self-harm.

Loathe as I am to suggest a reboot it’s the only thing that would work for The Matrix.

The magic is all in the origins story (similar to Jurassic Park, Pacific Rim and so many other movies they try and franchise)

may as well do a matrix movie based on the original war between humans and AI.

anything else and theres no point, or what about the other "one/s" from before neo?

NEO ain't even a good character really when you think about it, it's just a simple one dimensional guy

Maybe thats why the sequels were so boring

1 was iconic, simply groundbreaking in movie making.

2&3 were ok with some great set pieces but not much else - Zion rave? WTF? Too much time spent in the real word when we wanted to see cool stuff inside the Matrix.

4 - high hopes, but absolute dog toffee. Thought this started out amazingly well, seeing new operators watching the original opening was like, "wow, this is gonna be good!" But then................

I'll watch 5, i love the whole Matrix world, some of the games were pretty cool too.
