Not sure how there can be the 5th, there were only 3 matrix movies (and in my mind they will always have made by the Wachowski brothers)
I've not watched the 4th, and it's unlikely i ever will. If this is another unneeded sequel then it will also remain unwatched.
A prequel or some kind of unrelated spin off, I might consider.

I've never ever wanted to rewatch 2 or 3, and 4 was sooo bad you did yourself a favour by avoiding it.

Watch the opening though if you're a Matrix fan - then switch off and forget it ever existed.

Haven't been tempted to watch Matrix 4 again. Can't believe they are doing a 5th. I guess there must be enough revenue to justify it. It might possibly work if they focus on something completely different from the Neo story.....maybe.
I thought Reloaded was decent, didn't have the depth of the first film, but a lot of cool stuff, some of the filming was ground breaking at the time and still holds up well today.
Was very disappointed by the 4th film so I don't have high hopes for this - I've also never been convinced the meat of the original was the Wachowski's work as nothing they've done since has the same level of accomplishment of the subtle skills involved - that isn't something you unlearn or do by accident in a one hit wonder kind of situation - everything they've done since is more of a student to the master level of it. They are very good at the spectacle but don't have what it takes to add real substance to it.

The 1st Matrix was a great film and I didn't mind the 2nd and 3rd. The 4th though, I was not impressed so I can't say I have high hopes for a 5th film.

I must be one of the few people that liked the 4th film, so looking forward to the new one.

AS absolutely fantastic and cool as Keanu is, the first film really excelled because of the intensity and pace of the fighting scenes and given his age this days, he just don't move that quickly anymore, and can not train up to the same levels as previous....its the same with the John wick films.
Without the main characters being able to kick-ass the way they did, simply because they've got older, it loses a lot of the appeal.
For this franchaise to move on, he needs to take a roll in the next one more akin to Sam Elliot in road house, still a force to be reckon with, but from a generation ago, and let some new blood be the ones that do the awsome fighting stuff.

To be fair at least to my perception he hasn't slowed down that much - most other actors you can see they are really carrying it by 60 and/or making heavy use of doubles. I don't think it would be that difficult with a touch of CGI and use of doubles to get pretty close to what he could do in the first movie.
They definitely need to explore stuff outside of Neo's story with any new one, even if he is a part of it. That area has been done to death really and it would just be rehashing previous stuff which is where the last movie falls down really.
