I'm looking for an upgrade/downsize project and really like the look of the BitFenix Phenom MATX Cube Case - Nvidia Edition - Black case.
Figured I'd use the PSU, Graphics (ATI 6870) and hard drives etc and just replace what I had to.

I've take a little look at was thinking along these lines?

Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 £173.99

BitFenix Phenom MATX Cube Case - Nvidia Edition - Black £74.95

TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz £49.99

Gigabyte H81M-S2PV Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 £39.95

Totals £338.88

I'd appreciate any other views people have, but want to keep the whole build below £350.

Thanks in advance

The Phenom mATX has fine airflow.

There are plenty of mesh area at the front and the PSU doesn't block all the front intake holes. You can have the bottom mounted or rear mounted fan blowing in and have air exhausting out the top.

Or if not drop to the 4690(non-K).

The phenom mATX hasn't got great airflow due to the PSU placement.

What PSU do you intend to use?

OCZ ZS Series 750W '80 Plus Bronze'
figured I may upgrade the mobo later for one I could clock.
there's only £10 in it on the processors I think?

Do you plan on overclocking ? As you would want a Z97/Z87 board for that.

could I have that in budget?

could I have that in budget?

Yes, just make sure you get a 'Z97' board which will support overclocking. I recommend the retail CPU as you get an extra 2 years warranty!

Saying that, it brings the cost of the build close to £400, but there is not much difference in it.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £167.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97N-WIFI Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard £98.99
1 x BitFenix Colossus M Mini ITX - Black £59.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £49.99
Total : £386.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

wrong case tbh, brings the price way over, if that mobo/ram are find then I'll stick with those, just didn't want to buy a dud.

Depending on what you are using the pc for, you could consider the Pentium anniversary cpu. It won't have the same grunt as an i5 4690k as it is only dual core, but it is overclockable. If you are not doing anything 'cpu' intensive such as rendering/encoding etc, then maybe it's worth a shot.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £52.99
Total : £61.69 (includes shipping : £7.25).

There is a review here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2014/06/24/intel-pentium-g3258-review/1

Mostly gaming tbh. Want something that will play ps2 etc at more than 0.5fps
While taking up less room than my aklsa mirage cased one

As you qualify for free shipping you might get lucky with the weekly offers i.e Cheaper cpu, board, ram etc.

This is £20 over, but keep an eye out and you might get it for £350 with a bit of luck. You would need an aftermarket cooler if you want to do some overclocking, although the stock cooler should give you a bit of an o/c.

Nice elegant Matx case. I've seen the Anniversary cpu that Lee posted and it's nice. Very good for simpler setups. But, if you ever get into video editing/rendering, it'll sag, badly.

It is dual core, but...........................................

Overclock the **** out of it! then chuck it away when broadwell arrives or get 4670K/4970K etc maybe when they drop in price (unlikely)

Nah would rather have the quad core tbh and upgrading later will not happen.

just a thought, what happens if I go AMD rather than Intel?
also anyone (Stulid?) got views on the Prodigy vs Phenom?
I'm kinda jumpy about not having a DVD drive but having said that I've not used mine in a few years now....

Am I better off with

TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLD38G2133HC11ADC01)

Or

TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01)

Or

TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD38G2133HC11ADC01)

As they are all approx 60 quid?
