Or

TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01)

Or

TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD38G2133HC11ADC01)

As they are all approx 60 quid?

The first and third choices are exactlyt the same, the colours and just literally different colours, no different specs. :)

The Second one is 2400mhz rather than 2133mhz, so a little faster....

Personally I'd just go by the colour that suits your build. :)

just a thought, what happens if I go AMD rather than Intel?
also anyone (Stulid?) got views on the Prodigy vs Phenom?
I'm kinda jumpy about not having a DVD drive but having said that I've not used mine in a few years now....

AMD dont really have much that competes with Intel K CPU's.

The Phenom and Prodigy are essentially the same frame inside, the Prodigy does have a lot more colour options.

If you are keeping the 6870 surely it would make more sense to either go lower performance or previous generation or even get a sandybridge+matx mobo from the members market second hand. Unless you are also planning to upgrade the gpu in the near future?

hmm my hard drives don't like the sideways mounting!
that a common issue with mechanical drives?

ok I'll post up some build notes later, the case is very small and has some finiky bits.
anyone else with this one notice the fans at the top of the case are blowing in or was it just mine?

It was old but had been fine until then

Change in environment most likely the thing then. Even with rubber isolating mounts when mounted vertical vs. just screwed right in when horizontal, mine vibrates so much less horizontal so maybe there's something to that.
