Saw this tonight and was mesmerised! I felt like I was holding my breath the whole way through, such a feat of tension. I was also lucky enough to watch it in a unique cinema with Dolby's new cinema technology. If this is the future of cinema then I'm all for it!
 
Saw this earlier and the best way to see it is in D-box - subtly simulates weightlessness plus loads of in sync rocking / swaying - plus vibrations from explosions and the constant heart beat on the soundtrack. Well worth paying the extra.

It was a good film but I thought I was going to be blown away and I wasn't.

I can remember the first time I watched the beach landing on Saving Private Ryan at the cinema and from the reviews I was thinking this was going to be a similar experience. It wasn't.
I don't believe it will stand the test of time.

i felt the same, wasn't as good as it was hyped to be
very well done with all that floating around
i liked george clooney and his complete calmness in contrast to her panicking
i seen in a normal cinema and the 3d was lacking as always (once you've seen avatar....)

good but not blown away
 
I saw this tonight. Too tired to post much but I thought it was extremely good. It's one of the few films I want to pay to see again at the cinema.
 
Saw it last night at Cardiff IMAX, very good. The debris etc we're epic in decent 3D and the soundscape was one of the best I've seen (or heard?) for a while. Also thought the POV shots, particularly in the Chinese station, were very immersive and quite game-like.

I watched it at VueExtreme tonight. They just turn the sound up and have leather seats, screen is not different from what I can tell.

Good film but not amazing. 3D works quite well a lot of the time and it does actually add to the expereince but again it's not amazing. The suspense and overall feeling of emptiness in space the movie manages to generate is impressive.

So that makes it the second film, after Avatar that 3D makes any sense watching a film in becuase it does add to it (in places) Avatar still the best though.
 
Just back from the BFI IMAX and looking for a word to describe this film. I have it now, amazing! :)

I need to go back and see more of the detail. :D

If you haven't had a chance to see it yet go to the cinema that has the largest 3D screen to see it. There is nothing in this film to disappoint, you will love it!
 
I really enjoyed this film, it is by far the best 3D experience I've encountered. The debris was making me flinch when it was coming at you.

Shame it wasn't a longer film as visually it was amazing, character stories were a bit weak but that was it.
 
Stunning film, and though I wasn't quite as awestruck as some people have been I was gripped from start to finish. The performances are very good indeed, esp. Bullock and everything seemed reasonably plausible... a solid 9/10...

We had a crappy showing at Taunton Odeon, with the 3D suffering from awful crosstalk, and a generally fuzzy picture. The crosstalk was the worst I've seen, with multiple images occurring all the time, which is very noticeable and distracting against the dark backdrop of space. A complaint to the manager netted us two passes for any film until Feb, and they said they would check the projector, so that was fair enough.

Looking forward to the 3D Blu Ray.
 
I have purposely stayed away from all the hype, as I hope when I go and see it I will enjoy it more so to speak. I'm not expecting anything, so hopefully I will be impressed.
 
Considering the reviews I wasn't as blown away by this as I thought I'd be. Yes, there are some amazing visuals but the film itself seemed to lack any story or purpose and I didn't really feel for any of the characters. I also found the character played by Sandra Bullock to be quite irritating and frustrating to watch.

I realise the space debris caused a lot of the bad things happening but it did seem that bad luck followed her around. At the end when she tries to swim out the spaceship and nearly drowns, then eventually climbs out of her space suit to then immediately swim into what seemed like the only piece of seaweed in the entire area. I nearly shouted out loud "FFS, does she want to make this any more difficult for herself!"

Also nearly fell asleep twice, and this comes from someone who can quite happily watch a LotR marathon without a single yawn.

It was decent but I feel no need to watch it again.
 
i want to see this but i'm not sure if 3d is going to be worth it in a small town cineworld? also, it's £2.10 more expensive just to get in. :p

i was less than impressed with avatar and prometheus. and given how avatar seems to the "benchmark" for every 3d fan, i can't see how this is going to be any better.
 
I've just got in from seeing this with my 13 year old son and 3 of his mates. We all loved it from start to finish absolutely stunning effects and gripping story. 9.5/10.
