max payne 1 and 2 any good?

Why can't people grasp the fact that the MAX-FX engine was used to replicate a scene from the Matrix for a benchmark called 3DMark01 made by MadOnion who later became known as Futuremark?

my god this game doesnt like vista does it? .. after reading the thread thought id give the original a blast for old time sake. 1, spat the dummy when i put the disk in, eh ok, try it from the setup.exe, eureka!!. 2. installed and time to play, what do you mean not compatable?, trawl the net find the 1.05 patch, install, play.. woohoo, eh wait a minute, have i gone deaf?. 3. trawl the net again for creative alchemy so i can whip two of the files from it to give me sound. Done, finally after 90 mins i can sit back and have a game. Better be as good as i remember after all that.

The only one downside is that it needs finishing. There has to be a Max Payne 3 to put the story to bed.

I hate how games, such as Max Payne, Half Life 2, etc. don't finish off properly at the end of the game. This means, to me, that if they do run into financial difficulties then you may not ever end the series.

The games are decent entertainment. More popcorn than anything else. The mod scene on them was supposed to be quite good as well (there was a Kung-fu mod that was supposed to be quite entertaining).

Remedy sold the Max Payne franchise to Take Two, but it was nothing to do with financial difficultys. They'd been working on mp for five years and were wanting to focus on another project, which is now known as Alan Wake.

The official spiel from Take Two (taken from pc zone 2004) is they'll only make another Max Payne if / when they find the right developer to do it. So who knows? My guess is it'll be released in the same month as Duke Nukem forever. :D

Great games though, proper PC classics imo.

Max payne 1 is amazing.

Max Payne 2 is one of my favourite sp games of all time. The story, the way of storytelling, the effects, the music, etc.

though it is a bit old now, it is still great. It has some kick a** mods for it also, matrix mod, cinematic mod2.0, Mission impossible etc

MP1 was awesome, one of my favourite games. Im not a pC gamer anymroe, ahevn't been for years, but I was glad I was when MP1 was released to be apart of it.
Awesome gfx for the time. Great story and level design, a lot of detail, very polished.

I played the first one through over 5 times, loved it to bits. I bought the second one about two years ago, but i've never got round to playing it properly, i'd install it and then go off it after the first level or so. I think i'll give it another go after my exams.

Stand out games, that are not really like anything else out there in their styling and grittyness. They very much like have a feel of the film SinCity.

I never played the second Max Payne, so out of interest why did they change the characters appearance?, is it a different character or set years after the original or something?

cheers

i just picked MP2 up for 6 quid. im up to the bit where i in the chiefs office and just thrown a plant pot on the floor, now im exploring the police station. :D great game. the graphics are very good to say how old it is! and this game don't half run smooth even on maxxed settings.

Mainly because back when Max Payne was released, the budget wasn't big enough to have a hired actor \ model, so one of the game developers was the model, with 2 they cold afford an actual actor \ model so that's why his appearance changed, He's still Max Payne and it's very probable that he is quite a bit older.
