Maximus V Gene Preview/Review 8 Pack style

I hear using a nhd14 makes the 1st pcie slot
Very very tight - with back of gpu touching clips

Should I consider the nh12 cooler instead

Or use the 2nd pci-e slot ?

I think 2nd one is 8x pci-3 so shouldntbe a bottleneck for any current cards ?

I have a gtx480 soc ATM

Correct 8x pci 3.0 with Ivy so will not bottleneck as you suggest. Not sure about your cooler question though I dont have that cooler to test.

thanks - I'm still undecided between the V-Pro, UD5 and Gene-Z

but since I don't intend to SLI etc - I'm very very tempted with the Gene-Z :) looks a loverly board

I have not used the other boards mate but I do know the Gene now very well and it performs very well, incredibly fast, an amazing overclocker and is very stable with both Sandy and Ivy.

thats glad to hear thanks, as my Gene is on the way and should be here tomorrow

16gb Samsung Green, Gene-Z V, 3770k :)

I have just got some of that RAM as it seems popular on here. Then I can help people with it. Did a very quick test on MVG.

2666mhz was not a problem to post at these settings either but did not have time to stress test and tweak.

Just bought one of these for £141, last one, new stock £157!!!

To go with 2500k and 8 GIG of Corsair 1600mhz, will be on stock cooler for a while though.

Don't suppose anyone has OC'ed with that set up?

I have had a 2500K on it yes, but not with stock cooler no. Will do at least as well as any other board can with that set up though I am sure. It got my 2500K past any other board on my cooling. Just keep an eye on thermals with Core temp.

Could you run the benchmark with exact the same setup but with the RAM at 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 to see what difference it makes for those using RAM of that typical rating?

Yeah sure although I have no 1600mhz typical RAM. But I can mimic the settings could you post up the sub timings of 1600mhz RAM please as these subtimings make a big difference to perf.

Ok no problem. Sub timings do make a massive difference though. This was as is subtimings Samsung as I only tested for about half an hour late on. They did 2400 10-12-12-25 1T easy too. My Pi 32mb came down over ten seconds by tweaking sub timings at 2825mhz with the exact same CPU speed. I will just use AUTO then for all subs.

Just run the 32m calculation on my stock 1600MHz ram and it came in at 7m 36.396s.

Was you running stock CPU speed?

My i5 2500K was at 4.7Ghz is you would like to do a compare against my 2500k.

...

Yes as explained above stock speed on CPU. No turbo evan. I am testing DRAM stability here not Super Pi Score. My best score is like 5m16s with Gskill Trident. This is just to show the Samsungs are Pi32 stable at 2600 in my system.

Those are the Beta ones yes 0075 being the latest. Use at your own Risk!! each has its own carecter if you like in terms of tuning
.With 2500K 2133 mhz memory strap is the best your gonna get. Then tune from that. I have a 2500K in at the mo as of this morning I will have a go with the Greens and this CPU and see whats possible timing wise later. You can use BLK clocking to get higher RAM speeds also.

When I get home, yes I am working bank holiday!!! I will upload some Bios pics and a detailed guide of how to tune dimms on IVY CPU and what settings make a difference and the order to adjust.

Thanks for that:)

Question, have you tried the print screen option as I tried and it would not find my usb stick even though it is plugged in, would like to grab my settings before flashing so I have something to go on, also any tips for 2500k over clocking would be appreciated:D

Yes use one of the intel USB 2.0 ports (Top ones on I/O) and a FAT formatted usb.
