Maximus V Gene Preview/Review 8 Pack style

No I am not sponsored by ASUS no. I am on the ROG forum and help out as support but I am not sponsored. When I am home I do the testing while gaming but your right it does take a lot of time up.

I do sleep, but not much!!! lol

I am in a lot at the moment though as I am dieting for a competition.

You need any help with getting the best out of the board when you get it let me know.

Hi all, i'm thinking of maybe going for this motherboard (with a i5-3570K processor), because it's smaller (mATX) so i could use a smaller case.

I have four questions :

1. is there a big temperature difference, between a small (micro-ATX) and a big (ATX) case ? How high do you manage to overclock in each type of case?

2. does the Noctua NH-C14 CPU cooler fit in a mATX case ?

3. can i fit 16GB RAM, if i use the NH-C14?

3. Any other size-related problem i might bump into ?

1) If the air flow is good I see no issue with this.

2) Not sure as I don't have that cooler the guys above may be able to answer this better.

3) Samsung Green is very low profile and clocks well I am sure this will fit.

4) I doubt it in a well designed case but again the guys above are better placed to answer as they own rigs in smaller cases.

Its a great board and would prove a good choice in terms of overclocking and stability.

Did some 2600mhz settings last night for a bit. So far done the Primary Timings as tight as possible. The others are not tuned and can come down. For MVG users the important settings to get high mhz out of this RAM stable are transmitter and receiver slew. For these dimms set transmitter slews to 3 and receiver slews to 4.

will update this as I sort secondary and third timings.

I just use those settings yeah mate. I have had Ivy for a long while now and all teh Retail I have come across dont need massive VCCIO.

Yeah I have the Trident X yes. 11-13-12-25 1T at 2850all tuned for some serous Pi32mb times!!!!! Shaminos Trident X profile for around DDR 2650 with very high performance is also a great option for less good IMC CPU's. ie my 3770K which is poor in this area, Does 6ghz at low volts though but thats no good with poor IMC.

I have loads of Dimms here so any IC's you want some tuned settings for let me know.

The pi 32 times I posted with 2800 where not tuned at all really. I have tuned one now for the retail controller, dropped around 8 seconds with 50 more mhz and tuning of all timings. Same CPU speed of 5.8ghz.

@ surveyor lol yeah I use I a lot I will try to stop lol!!!
